The problem is not in how things are explained, but in that as many in these threads have recognised- most older/inexperienced users don't understand what a computer is doing.
The best thing my parents did (in their 60's) was do a night class that introduced them to computing.
They learned how to use the internet, what viruses are and why they need to keep anti-virus software up to date, installation of apps and some basics of computer management and hardware configuration and purpose.
Straight forward stuff that most of us learned so long ago we forgot where we heard it. But for these people - its a new world and its scary.
