actually, it was the kingpins behind the nanotech helicopter larceny ring,/. that stole my porportional fonts.... only seems to happen here....it's a conspiracy, i tell you, a conspiracy!
now we get to see the conspiracy freaks totally go insane over this. imagine all the storys now, nano-tech stealth helicopters invading privacy... like the government cares about you.
Did anyone expect anything BUT this to happen? It's a classic "we-need-someone-offical-looking" hall pass stuff. Just like when you were in school, and sweet talked the sub to let you do something cause you know the regular teacher that was there yesterday and will be back tommorow wouldn't let you get away with it. Truthfully, part of me is surprised that the goverment didn't try to find a way to sneak it in to all the systems it wants to. Maybe they did, and couldn't find a solution that didn't make them look like a remake of 1984. I know if i had something like this, my first choice of placement would not be "look at me, i want you to put this on your computer voluntarily".
BOK has been notoriously security-lax in the past years. Their credit bureau network admin left the default password/login on the system, which was findable by anyone who had used/had a manual for the software. You could go in, and change credit ratings, find Names + SSNs, and change payments. Pretty much why I refuse to use them for my bank. Now this comes up, and I can't help but laugh.
whoa.... this happened to you a few months ago? about 2 months back, my DSL Speed took a the same shit dive yours did, from ~200k/s to sub-80k/s, and they told me there was nothing wrong on thier end, nothing wrong with my setup, must just be the magical pixies, etc etc etc. I'm using SWBell and thier SBC ISP. waiting on the call back from another ISP in town to change my ISP, see if that brings my speed back up. if it does, it'll be real interesting, considering i never got a letter about a cap, or anything, and i'm paying for 1.5Mbit DSL.
just to try it out, i did a search for "flight". the only channel it gave me as a result of that search was #mp3all, which appeared to be a spanish fserv channel for mp3s.
I was actually toying with a new shell for Windows, using this idea. (I currently use Litestep as a replacement shell, it's great, i have my own totally personalized UI, with everything the way i want it, with tons of keyboard shortcuts.) the problem of editing a document was solved by using a movement/typing toggle. the main problem was that people who didn't have any prior experience with FPS'es had no clue what they were doing, and had to be totally walked thru the steps. The learning curve was just too great for those types of people.
hmm... you know... that does pose an interesting question... if i have enough lego blocks, i could just keep adding onto it, and build an entire island out of lego blocks...start somewhere shallow like in the carribean, rather than deep sea. that would kick ass. wonder if anyone is bored enough to draw up plans and a brick count to do that?
actually, the "jump to another solar system, join another server" thing is EXACTLY what Parsec (freeware space sim) is doing for it's network. Each server is a "system" and you go thru jumpgates to go between them. sortof a quasi-beowulf for the server. one server goes down, you only lose a solar system for a while.
ya, word is that a demo will be out ~1 week before it hits the shelves. this is definately gonna be a buy for me, it'll be awesome if some dedicated servers get up that will allow some real interaction with other players in a real/persistent universe. i really don't expect to see it as big player-to-universe-wise as EQ or something, but even playing with say 50-100 people in there would be cool as hell. I've been dreaming of a game like that as long as i can remember
acutally, we've understood quantum effects for a while now. see all those ICs in your computer? not doable without knowing quantum effects. nor was the LCD in your digital watch. both of those have been around for a while. Anything that is really small, and has electricity bouncing around in it is a harbor for quantum effects.
very nice, the tech is cheap (US$5.60ea@1000/batch.) and the 2.4Ghz band gives you good speed on the wireless. beats the hell out of the 900Mhz range that my cel phone hooked to my laptop runs. (for those who aren't familar with radio tech, a simple version is more Hz = faster data sent, since the wavelengths of the band are shorter, and radio waves travel at the same speed regardless of wavelength.) the only thing i see that could be a prob is range. will i be able to do a wireless network from my laptop to my server at home, and still be able to roam around the city while at work? or will this be more of a wireless LAN application?
I know this is probably a longshot, but did anyone happen to score like a realplayer or mpg of it? I'd just like to see what these script kiddies were actually doing, god knows they weren't hacking.
ahh... Sneakers. watched it for the first time when i was 11 years old, and have watched it many times since. but ya, the NSA is more of a think-tank and R&D for the government than anything.
Useless Factoid about the NSA, they actually handle 90% of the US's intelligence work, the CIA handles about 7%, and the FBI takes care of the rest.

ya, also, check the total lack of real info on it.
it looks like a PR page, nothing substantial on it.
