The question is, if they develop an MMO, are they hiring all new guys to do it, or are some of the experienced TES devs working on it? Does this mean no TES:V?" Dunno about TES:V, but it appears that an all new team is being put together by them to make MMOs. ZenMax Media (parent company of Bethesda Softworks) has set up a new studio called ZeniMax Online Studios, and according to their website (zenimaxonline.com) they are working on MMOs. It's headed by Matt Firor, one of the guys from Mythic (made DAOC back in the day).
This is interesting. Tyler Hamilton, the American who won the Cycling Gold Medal at the Athens Olympics (and a stage at the Tour de France) tested postive for blood doping - where atheletes get infusions of other people's more oxygen rich blood. I saw an interview with him a bit later on HBO Sports where he claimed that he was innocent, and that he tested positive because he was a chimera, and had two different types of blood, which is what led to the appearance of having an infusion.
He was basically laughed out of the sport because of this; maybe it's not so farfetched and there may be some truth to his story?
I've been using OO 1.x for a long time now, and really, I probably won't go back to MS Office. However, the one feature that I want more than anythning is in OO Writer - to support MS Word's "Normal" text entry mode. With this, you don't see unecessary gray borders, as it doesn't try to make you think you're typing on an actual piece of paper. Normal Mode in MS Word just gives you a blank window. Page breaks are shown as dotted horizontal lines. That's it - why make it more complicated and take up screen real estate?
OO 2.0 does not support Normal mode, and there are some threads on the Writer board over at OO.org requesting the feature. I have no idea why this isn't supported, and I'm tired of having to resize my Writer window every time I open a document, just so I don't have to look at the stupid borders. Those that are preachy about oo Writer will post here that all I have to do is make a template with my window resized, but that's not the point - I just want it to work in as simple a way as possible. Is that so wrong?
This has been playing on other news sites as if it is the first time that News Corp has gotten into the game industry - but it's not the first time. In the late 90's, they bought Kesmai Corporation (Online game developer/publisher in the early days of the industry). Kesmai at the time had Air Warrior, Mech Warrior, Legends of Kesmai and other titles.
With News Corp's money, Kesmai launched the online gaming site Gamestorm with Kesmai's games as well as many titles from Mythic Entertainment, in their pre-Dark Age of Camelot days (games like Magestorm, Silent Death, Godzilla Online, Aliens Online, etc.).
The whole Gamestorm idea turned out to be a bust, as it was a bit too early for people to shell out monthly subscriptions to online games. Eventually News Corp sold out to EA, and gamestorm became the prototype of EA.com, which then of course went on to lose a spectacular amount of money and eventually was closed down itself.
Just a bit of early online game history that I thought everyone would find illuminating.

Story says "Mythic Studios" - the name of the company is actually Mythic Entertainment.
