    They are going to drop it like a hot potato. Not before they got all major problems with Vista fixed, which may not happen before Windows Seven (of Nine ?) is available... they would be killed by large corporate/government/military users.

    There is no way at this time to be 100% sure that the correct person is using the computer. You would need a foolproof biometric system (fingerprints are not ok anymore), a password and an physical ID and all of that should preferably run on a secure platform. We can't even be 75% sure now, people do not care about security.

    Only if Microsoft implement ad delivery system which would make the OS inoperable without the ads, which
    • would make the system illegal in several civilized countries, if it is not free
    • would require an always-on Internet connection
    • would give several problems with X-rated ads presented to children (you never know who is in front of the PC)
    • would be quite easy to block by an external firewall/router which would remove the ads but pass the necessary information to make Windows run

    The salesperson tells you that you can't buy it without Windows and you may return it if you do not want it with Windows.

    1. Apple manufactures both products and they may sell them bundled
    2. Apple is not a monopolist
    3. Apple do not sell OS X for non-Apple computers

    The physical hardware or ideas for what to work on ? They can get a couple ideas right here:
    • WiFi still sucks, it is much better than a couple of years ago but it is not good enough.
    • UMTS / GSM / GPRS cards and phones, we need a GUI and an encrypted store for the PIN-code
    • 3D graphic cards, yes I know that ATI and nVidia are not cooperating
    • there are some issues with sound card drivers
    • Bluetooth is also a field which could be improved
    They are however all listed on their Wiki...

    Yeah... and a judgment in one EU country is valid in all other EU countries (at least as a precedent) and so are the price tags set by the court.
    The Italian "job" is almost the same (and so are the price tags) as the French judgment from a couple of weeks ago.

    I save in .doc when it is important to me that they can edit it... (70% @work stuff)
    I save in .pdf when it is important for me that they can read it...
    and I save in .odt when I want them to sweat and ask for mercy... and when they do, they get a link to www.openoffice.org

    I do however live in a country which have a weird law requiring all government bodies to be able to read odf and ooxml from 01.01.2008.

    ...that developers from MS Gold partners are telling you to shut down automatic updates because they can/may/will ruin the $1 mill. .NET based project they are developing for you.
    I have heard this from several different MS partners in the past years.

    Just FYI... A lot of businesses would love to use something else than Microsoft products.
    The Problem with MS products is that they only work well with... other MS products... and they ONLY work on Windows.
    So... anybody who tries to make a replacement for :
    • Windows
    • Exchange & Outlook
    • SQL server
    • .NET
    • Office
    • Visio
    • Project
    ...is good for everybody except Microsoft.
    btw. it may be commercial...

    ...clueless lusers are the biggest problem and that they are as clueless on Windows at they would be on Linux.
    The favourite Microsoft Fanboy Argument about the easiness of Windows is a dead heering, just because someone think they can use an OS does not mean that they can.
    ...and since Microsoft makes anybody admin per default (on Vista too ?) anything the user run can kill both the virusscanner, firewall and anything else (if not by simply shutting it down then by putting it in debug mode).

    ...the competition from Windows XP. Right now (allmost a year after launch) the only real reason for upgrade is DirectX 10, and it seems that the gaming industry can't see any idea in changing to DirectX 10.

    If you are in cell range you may be able to get high-speed UMTS (aka. 3G Turbo) running 3 Mbit (and being boosted to 7Mbit in near future.
    Ericsson got some small UMTS routers with ethernet and 802.11b/g (WPA supported).

    Yes, I know what I'm talking about... I've got SuSE on my ThinkPad... and the only person except me who touches my ThinkPad is my 2 year old granddaughter... she likes the penguin on the lid. :-D
