They are going to drop it like a hot potato. Not before they got all major problems with Vista fixed, which may not happen before Windows Seven (of Nine ?) is available... they would be killed by large corporate/government/military users.
IKEA do have a solution...

There is no way at this time to be 100% sure that the correct person is using the computer. You would need a foolproof biometric system (fingerprints are not ok anymore), a password and an physical ID and all of that should preferably run on a secure platform. We can't even be 75% sure now, people do not care about security.
...they could become the only people capable of delivering ads at all. Only if Microsoft implement ad delivery system which would make the OS inoperable without the ads, which
would make the system illegal in several civilized countries, if it is not free
would require an always-on Internet connection
would give several problems with X-rated ads presented to children (you never know who is in front of the PC)
would be quite easy to block by an external firewall/router which would remove the ads but pass the necessary information to make Windows run
Probably because it is quite hard to get the refund: The salesperson tells you that you can't buy it without Windows and you may return it if you do not want it with Windows.
Yeah... and a judgment in one EU country is valid in all other EU countries (at least as a precedent) and so are the price tags set by the court. The Italian "job" is almost the same (and so are the price tags) as the French judgment from a couple of weeks ago.
I save in.doc when it is important to me that they can edit it... (70% @work stuff) I save in.pdf when it is important for me that they can read it... and I save in.odt when I want them to sweat and ask for mercy... and when they do, they get a link to www.openoffice.org
I do however live in a country which have a weird law requiring all government bodies to be able to read odf and ooxml from 01.01.2008.

Yes, I'm an arrogant bastard (just as arrogant as mr. Gates and mr. Ballmer)... and I'm proud of it.
...that developers from MS Gold partners are telling you to shut down automatic updates because they can/may/will ruin the $1 mill..NET based project they are developing for you. I have heard this from several different MS partners in the past years.
"I dont understand this obsession about overtaking microsoft office in businesses." Just FYI... A lot of businesses would love to use something else than Microsoft products. The Problem with MS products is that they only work well with... other MS products... and they ONLY work on Windows. So... anybody who tries to make a replacement for :
Windows
Exchange & Outlook
SQL server
.NET
Office
Visio
Project
...is good for everybody except Microsoft. btw. it may be commercial...

No, it is not Microsoft bashing... this is MONOPOLY bashing...
"You upgrade your OS and you'll probably need to upgrade your hardware too." Correction: "You upgrade your Microsoft OS and you'll probably need to upgrade your hardware too." Neither my Linux nor my OS X needed hardware upgrades.
...and poor Microsoft who has totally fucked up Vista (and delayed it several times) just to implement a "unbreakable" DRM system... instead of fixing some of Windows' real problems.
But didn't Microsoft say that it is impossible to backport features to XP from Vista due to major differences in the system ? ...and since it is possible, will we be getting DirectX 10 on XP too ? ...and if not, why not ?

btw. how can this be good for Vista ?
...clueless lusers are the biggest problem and that they are as clueless on Windows at they would be on Linux. The favourite Microsoft Fanboy Argument about the easiness of Windows is a dead heering, just because someone think they can use an OS does not mean that they can. ...and since Microsoft makes anybody admin per default (on Vista too ?) anything the user run can kill both the virusscanner, firewall and anything else (if not by simply shutting it down then by putting it in debug mode).

Yes, I'm propably starting another flamewar... but my args. are valid.
...the competition from Windows XP. Right now (allmost a year after launch) the only real reason for upgrade is DirectX 10, and it seems that the gaming industry can't see any idea in changing to DirectX 10.
If you are in cell range you may be able to get high-speed UMTS (aka. 3G Turbo) running 3 Mbit (and being boosted to 7Mbit in near future. Ericsson got some small UMTS routers with ethernet and 802.11b/g (WPA supported).
If you've got Linux on your laptop, dude, you got a little mark on the lid showing it... ...and nobody want to touch it.;-)

Yes, I know what I'm talking about... I've got SuSE on my ThinkPad... and the only person except me who touches my ThinkPad is my 2 year old granddaughter... she likes the penguin on the lid.:-D
"This is a BETA, it is not finished yet. Everything will be alright when it is released."
...but this should only be the blocking of commercial P2P like Joost, WoW etc.

It's called Bräda it works very well.

I'm not even sure there is any lower UID than the one for AC which obviously must be 0...

- WiFi still sucks, it is much better than a couple of years ago but it is not good enough.
- UMTS / GSM / GPRS cards and phones, we need a GUI and an encrypted store for the PIN-code
- 3D graphic cards, yes I know that ATI and nVidia are not cooperating
- there are some issues with sound card drivers
- Bluetooth is also a field which could be improved

You pay $400 for two OLPC's... if you don't like the idea of supporting the project then just don't buy it.
I've got the same problems on my SuSE 10.2... I've removed zen updater from my system..

You don't need Semtex... You can just make the Li-ion battery explode.
