Actually, if he means router in the strictest sense, the guinea pig could be a router for a dead-end network. However, finding an IOS for that specific architecture may be a little tricky...
Actually, I mispoke when I said distro...are you using an emulator such as Cedega or Wine, or are you just using a Linux port of a game? I've got a TON of Windows games that are tethering me to the MS OS.
No doubt something ext3 or Reiser would offer a performance boost over FAT32/NTFS, as well as a Linux graphics driver.
Considering my wireless connection comes in a consumer-end router which has a built-in firewall and NAT, it doesn't matter which OS I'm using. SysInternals.com (a year ago - before Microsoft bought it) found all ports undetectable under both Windows and Linux.
What's sad, though, is that there actually are educated people who think this way. I grew up in southern Virginia surrounded by this sort of crap. My AP History teacher was exactly like this: Reagan and Nixon could do no wrong yet Carter and Clinton did everything wrong. These people will go on insane rants, contradicting themselves a zillion times; you try to argue with them and they just spew off a bunch of figures so quickly that you could not possibly verify them.
It's exactly this sort of attitude that is keeping the entire region down. While the north and east of the state are moving forward, this anti-progressivism is keeping us in the hinderlands.
Why, thank you. I think this is the first AC compliment I've ever seen.
Yes, it was satire. I saw DocRuby's OP just asking for an ultra-right-wing response. Having spent a considerable amount of my life in a region that believes this stuff, I should think I would be quite qualified to satirize it. In other words, I couldn't resist the urge to troll an area I know quite well.
The best thing you can do is have a siesta. Sleep for half an hour and come back to work.
Ah, yes - the good ol' powernap. I spent many-a-lunchbreak in the high school library preparing for my excruciating AP English class that way.
I can get a ton of work done in a few hours in the morning
I usually get the most work done in the late evening, but I'm a night person anyway. Use whatever time works for you.
Generally, I don't believe in the idea you can "push yourself" into creating more software by staying more hours.
Neither do I. After about 3 hours, I usually have to take a break and drink something with caffeine and CO2 before I can get any more work done. However, caffeine and napping will only take you so far. To truly increase productivity, 9+ hours of uninterrupted sleep the night before is the real solution.
Does diet and/or coffee consumption make or break the deal?
Go to Kroger and get the store brand of Mountain Dew. It's called Citrus Drop. Whenever I need to concentrate, I chug one. The resulting burning feeling in my head from the caffeine and the fresh carbonation greatly improves my focus for the next hour.
However, don't do this right before a gaming session. You'll just get jittery.
When did the Soviets infiltrate the CIA? I think I remember something about that in high school history class, but that may have been the chapter on McCarthy...
Not offtopic, mods. That was not only a hilarious take on "I like monkeys", but also made a point about how Scientology has abused the justice system to limit free speech against it on the internet. Like when an AC posted a Scientology document that could be found anywhere a few years ago and the CoS lawyers bullied CmdrTaco into deleting the thread.
Why? Granted, it does look similar to the AC you complain about in your journal, but have you ever considered that the journal stalher, the G4P post, the AC who calls you "willy", and those of us with enough maturity to log in all have a point? You have posted accusations about Microsoft many times that have no basis in fact, and those links all prove it. When someone comes with background information to refute your claims or a question about where you got your figures, you rarely respond. Of course, this could be an implied "I was wrong", but later you still continue to spread this libel.
You need to seriously reconsider your role in life. If you want to use Linux, and put it on your family's computers, that's your business. But coming up with this stuff about Microsoft intentionally leaving open security holes and other flat-out lies is unacceptable. Off the internet, do you have any friends? If so, is there even the slimmest chance that they're just being polite when you go on these wild tangents about MS? There are several honorable courses of action in your current situation: you could A) justify your posts with cited facts from trusted sources, B) leave the thread and end the flamewar, or C) admit your wrongs publicly (true, there are VERY few people I would expect to do this, but it would show a highly admirable sense of character). Instead, you post something as pointless as "I'm laughing at you". Since those are your posts linked, you're only laughing at yourself.
I've browsed back over the posts and it looks like there were 4 mod points spent to mod us down, leaving one point to mod twitter's OP up, if it were a user, and I doubt that anyone would mod the same post twice. Also, the later anti-twitter posts in the thread were not modded down. Furthermore, it could explain the Underrated mod, as anyone even remotely intelligent would bean them in metamod otherwise. Such logic would explain my post, which indeed has nothing to do with the EFF, as well as Ohreally's post looking somewhat trollish if the M2er doesn't click "See Context". Also without "See Context", jb.hl.com's post has a trollish tone. I'm still trying to figure out your moderation, though.
One could build a case that since 5 mod points were spent in the manner a twitter-fan trying to cover their tracks in metamod may spend them, it is somewhat probable that it was just a user. We will never know, but I'm just suggesting the possibility.

100% Offtopic
Granted, this was offtopic, but who would mod me down THIS LONG after the post (two days, three after the story itself was posted. At this moment, twitter hasn't been modded down at all (I'd choose Flamebait), but even dedazo, who made a very valid point, is apparently Troll. WilliamSChips, is that you?
Twitter, going through someone's posting history is not only flat-out dishonorable, it also is for you hypocritical. You have that journal entry up complaining about how ACs stalk you with links to your past, and then you turn right around and do this!
Has it occured to you that you're doing more harm than good with your extremist evangelism? Yes, Windows has security problems and yes, Linux is a viable alternative, but making accusations about Microsoft that obviously have NO basis in fact is not the way to convert people - it will only drive them away. You're obnoxiousness is only hurting the free software community and the fine people who distribute Linux.
Since you like conspiracies, here's one: How much is Steve Ballmer paying YOU to defame us?
*for the idiot mods this post would be "offtopic". Please mod accordingly.
Thanks. Now I have a sig.

Really?! Which distro are you using? I'm interested.
Yeah, you should install a completely new OS just to do something like boost performance in WINDOWS games. twitter, is that you?
Considering my wireless connection comes in a consumer-end router which has a built-in firewall and NAT, it doesn't matter which OS I'm using. SysInternals.com (a year ago - before Microsoft bought it) found all ports undetectable under both Windows and Linux.
It's satire. I know because I wrote it.

And to DocRuby: I'm sorry to say this, but YHBT.
a very good satirist

It would be rather pointless to inform him on a website if his internet access has been revoked.

But just wait'll they roll out NAT for IPv6. Then we'll really be in trouble!
But American citizens couldn't possibly be agents of a foreign power - if they were it would be treason, and there are laws in place for that already.
Doesn't protect the random Middle-Eastern citizen from being swept off the street while vacationing in Europe, though.
That's a relief. I thought you might have been banned, considering the satirical nature of your account. It's dangerous for people to make statements against the Slashbot mentality these days.
it would have been a truly beautiful and charming joke
Well, that post up there was a strange one. Those of us down here salute you.

Exactly. Until Linux supports my DWL-520E without a painful, complicated hassle, my Win98 box is staying just that.
