Well said.
As someone who used Windows 3.0 back in the day, you're exactly right. I only ever managed to use standard mode though, as although I had a "fantasticly fast" 386/16 WITH a maths coprocessor no less, I only had 2MB of RAM. This meant that if I started up clean with nothing but himem loaded, I *could* just about persuade windows to run in enhanced mode, but then there was no memory left to do anything so it was effectively useless.
There is so much missing from this beta it seems pointless, to an extent. There is certainly much that's missing or isn't finalised which makes it next to useless for interested application developers, I would think.
I guess it's more a case of MS letting the code into the wild to see if it's as robust as they hope.
The thing is (from what the articles say) it's not about one particular flaw.
It's that ANY overflow flaw can be exploited to take control of Cisco IOS, which is bad news. Add Cisco's plan to abstract the hardware from IOS and then you've got a major problem.
Basicly, it's about time Cisco implimented some form of DEP protection offered by current Intel and AMD processors + software, to prevent this from being an issue.
Or check their bloody code of course.
I built my latest AMD64 rig around the fact that it was going to be in my bedroom and on 24/7, so it is nearly inaudible from three feet away.
Silence comes at a cost though - it's been rather expensive to build for it's modest specs.
The basics are Athlon64 3000+, GeForce 6600GT, 1GB crucial ballistix ram and 3 160gb harddrives.
I found SPCR to be a very helpful source of information and many modifications i've made to the internals of the case are based on plans and recommendations from that site.
It's worth a look.
Since when is legality defined as whether an american gets paid or not?
The site is legal under the laws of the territory it is located in, and will remain so until such time as the laws are changed. Until then, downloading music from it is classed as parallel importing, which the labels don't like but can do nothing about as it is perfectly legal too.
And the advantage allofmp3.com has over p2p nets is the wide range of choice you get over the quality of your music (and that the prices are ridiculously cheap).
Amen to that.
The day I buy music online is the day it doesn't come pre-crippled. About the only place you can "legally" do so is allofmp3.com and I doubt they'll be about for too long either. Russian copyright law* is being reformed as a direct result of the site's activities.
*yes yes, an oxymoron I know
I mean come on.
Any system drawing even close to 500W has serious issues given even the worst P4 draws around 130. Maybe another 70 for a 6800 Ultra (and that's erring heavily towards overestimating) and say 30 for a few hard disks.
That's 230W.
230W people - there is no way on earth this thing is required, especially if it actually delivers what it claims to deliver. Knowing the usual advertising habits of companies who target their products towards "ricer geeks", it probably delivers more like 500W which is still vastly over requirements.
Well, whatever.
If anyone is that stupid that they think this thing is worth buying then they deserve nothing more than to piss thier money away on such crap.
For free
For now.
Forgive me, but I am a sceptic wherever big american corporations and the word "free" are used in conjunction with each other.
If I could be bothered to find you in 5 year's time, I'd put money on me being able to say "told you so".
Rewriting the laws of physics might proove a little tricky...
Multi-megawatt FM stations are omni-directional. A uni-directional signal requires only a fraction of the strength to be heard over the same distance.
Well said.

Call it a Aleta. Or maybe Belpha sounds better...

Great, more giant monopolies. Google seem to be attempting to become the Microsoft of the internet. At least they're being open about it I guess.
