Copyrights are not automaticly assigned to works of art etc... you have to actually go through a process.

Actually, as of April of 1989, Copyright is automatic.

  2. I'm violationg my own copyright! on RIAA: Ripping CDs to iPod not 'Fair Use' · · Score: 1

If you follow the logic of the RIAA, when I use my digital camera to take a picture, transferring it to my pc is a violation since I am technically making a copy of that image. If I tweak the image in Photoshop I have made an illegal modification to my original work. If I email the picture to my Mom, I have made another illegal copy. If I back up my hard drive, I have created yet another illegal copy. If I put it on a CD (another copy) to take to Walgreens to make a print (another copy). In doing so, Walgreens violates the copyright by taking the image from my CD and storing it in their printer. Now say I hang this in photo in the window. Every person that walks by is USING my work. I have illegally shared my image with them.

Take it a step further (with all the hysteria about sampling/mixing/mashing) The fact that I have even taken a photograph is a violation, because I am icluding in my image the likeness of things that someone ELSE created. (say, my house, the clothes my girlfriend is wearing, etc.)

If you follow the RIAA logic to completion, it is illegal to be alive, as we have made illegal copies of DNA.
  3. My new business plan on Software Patents Stopped in India · · Score: 1

I think the idea of getting rid of patents is fantastic!

I was going to start a software development company this summer. I had planned to roll out three product lines in FY 2008. I figured three years ought to be enough time for my programmers to fully develop the ideas and get the code written. So, three years, 30 programmers @ $80K per year + an additional $40K in benefits and taxes, $20K per month in rent for office space, equipment, bandwidth, phone lines, etc.

Screw that! I'm not going to spend millions dollars and three years of my life when as soon as the product launches someone in India can chage the name on the box and sell it for less.

I'll let the suckers in India do all the labor and just "open source" their stuff with MY brand on it. Let THEM spend the money to develop it. All I need is 10,000 users at $100 a pop and I've made a million dollars profit. The suckers in India have to sell it for $200 and sell a million units just to cover their startup costs.

    The only problem with that...

They might get tired of me reaping the benefits of their investment. Then, they'll want to protect that investment somehow. After all, it was THEY who spent all the money and time developing the stuff.

It's a good thing they are so againt protecting intellectual property.

I'd be screwed and actually have to work for a living.

    Innovation is expensive.

America needs more power. Americans are overweight. How about installing small generators on all of the exercise bikes and treadmills in the health clubs across the country? We could improve the physical condition of the population while helping to contribute to the nation's energy supply. Dave ;)
