  1. T-Mobile wifi phone, good wifi finder, ironic on Ericsson Predicts Swift End For Wi-Fi Hotspots · · Score: 2, Informative

Got one of those T-Mobile phones that does the VOIP deal when near a wi-fi network. As a side benefit he phone is great to have as a wi-fi finder, don't have to breakout the laptop just to check, and I find I wind up checking for wi-fi spots all over the place because of the nerd tendency to fidget. Tells me if the wi-fi spot is locked and signal strength, and if I want to connect the cell phone to the wi-fi network I'll do that too, usually at my favorite bar. In this case my cell phone makes is easier to find free wi-fi, fine with me.

Long story .... we had vendor lock in (contractual) in relation to mega expensive hosting, not the code itself, still the code lacked a lot in functionality (very old, needed a wholesale rewrite), so we ditched it. While I could have written new features in CF, open-source seemed to be the way to go, didn't want to reinvent the wheel. Again, came down to skills, I can cruise in PHP, and am curious how much longer Adobe will support CF in the future...maybe forever, but I am weary.

It sounds like you did find a developer for your nameless code platform. However, I am a sole developer at a company of 400 employees. We run PHP, PERL, some proprietary guck, and Cold Fusion (I want it gone). My old co-worker used PERL for XML filtering, etc and I am motivated to learn it myself. I will be attending a PERL class soon, just so I can maintain our current code base. My main strength is PHP, so learning PERL should not be a big leap. When hiring a new person, are they motivated or lazy? Are they willing to learn a new platform? I'm willing to do it, learning PERL will help me career wise, and help my employer, and it's (sort of) fun. I said it...PERL and fun in the same sentence, joy!

Over the long haul, we are phasing out a fleet of Cold Fusion properties we run and converting over to PHP. We had vendor lock in with the Cold Fusion, hosting is expensive, and the sites are 'vintage' to say the least. So, for redesigns and recode we are porting the sites over to a heavily customized version of Joomla. For us, it is cost and maintainability to ditch Cold Fusion. However, it really pushed us over the edge when it came to redesigning the sites, we thought 'why not just build from the ground up' on these. If these were enterprise level sites that would be different, they are independent smaller newspapers.

There's a reason so many are anti-Bush, because he's dropped the ball with terrorism (Terrorists determined to use aircraft, daily intel briefing), reduced civil liberties, and has tried his best to cow the general public with fear. Hence the popular phrase "I'm sick and tired, of being sick and tired"...in regard to W. Clinton left Bush with a plan to go after Bin Laden and ample warnings about the terrorism threat. Richard Clarke did his best to warn the dubya administration, and he was demoted. Here's the full deal. on Time.com.

For Wikipedia, could be any of a thousand staffers, I've worked on Capitol Hill and there's just too many people that would have motives to alter this Wikipedia entry.

There needs to be facts to back up your statements. There are MANY examples of well run schools, particularly in districts where parents are more involved and in where the structures are in place for the accountability of each student. In many cases, this happens to be wealthier or more activists districts where parents have the time and motivation to keep tabs on their kids, and the schools have the structures in place to keep those kids accountable, such as decently paid teachers that care about students. So, starving the school is the wrong thing to do, they should be well funded and have top notch teaching talent and a means to hold students accountable such as well trained administrators. Which comes to my next point, Bush's tax cuts suck for the long-term. "Starve the Beast" they say, what a load of shit. In a more reasoned manner, govt. should be efficient but decently funded as well, wow, what novel ideas, to have funding, but have those institutions be accountable too! Govt. is there to serve and protect the populace and individual, hence my tax money well spent. In the FY'06 budget, Sen. Voinavich, Republican of Ohio is willing to put Bushie's tax cuts on the table for discussion, thankfully. Send him a thank you http://www.actionsspeaklouder.org/leaderhip/).
