These things are cyclical. I'm a QA guy, I was the first to go (well, the first techie, sales, help desk and tech support were considered less worthy). Bean counters don't see the value in what I do. Fourtunetly, I also write code so I'm laying low hacking mediocre code until things pick up. In a year or so QA will be recognized as the most nessesary thing since breathing. You need not worry, they can't live without us, someone has to make all shit work, and they are too stupid to do it. The genie is out of the bottle and the geeks have inherited the earth. Remember the prolouge to "Brave New World"........our biggest danger is "amusing ourselves to death". They can't amuse themselvs to death without us, so we will always have work

Alchohol, tobaco, white flour, sugar, salt. HMMM looks like I missed a few, ground beef and cheese seem quite popular. Looks like I'm guilty of quite a few of the sins listed in this book.

The French troops in Bosnia, are they the same ones that say "Bon Jour" to the indicted war criminals that they see each day? If it wasn't for the Rusians Brits and Americans you would all be driving Volkswagons.

Sigh...."Hello..McFly...knock, knock..." You have not seen any picture of American Troops in Afganistan? Not the ones on horseback fighting with the alliance? Not the special forces parachuting in at night near Kandahar? Not the special Forces troops spotting on the groud for the artillery? I have a web site for you www.cnn.com. When DeGualle asked President Johnson to remove US/Nato troops from France after France "QUIT!!" NATO, I loved Johnsons response: "Do you want us to move out our hundred thousand dead, too?" Give up like you did for Hitler and pipe down.

Well this is a great idea. This way the entire population can cyber-surrender! Yup, it will be much easier for the French to surrender now that they can do it online! No more waiting for dusty old diploments to figure out terms. This was the surrender can be done quickly and everybody can go back to being on strike. Oh by the way French Government, thanks for your offer of troops and planes now that all the fighting is done!

  6. Bout the same here but.... on InfoWorld says WinXP much slower than Win2K · · Score: 1

I have been saved 3 times by system restore. Each time I tried to add certain CD burning software on my laptop I would get bluescreens. The rollback feature allowed me to "backdate" my sytstem, thus saving me the time of a complete reinstall. Since it takes me almost a day to rebuild a system to my liking I guess it's worth it. I suspevt that the system restore might be what is slowing XP down. I mean NTFS is always journaling so I guess part of the hit is there. I just throttled down the GUI to the "best performace" setting on the laptop and its not bad. It seems to get hung up on backround tasks like compacting my usenet reader. MY desktop has 2 P III's so no complaints there. The other big time saver was putting it on the kids machine at home. I have a 12, 9 and 4 year old and haven't been able to crash it yet.

Hmmmm. I think that Farscape is still hte best thing on. It might have lost a step this year, but the pop-culture references and the clever homage to other ScIFi really makes it worth watching. (Yo! DRD Pike!)
