    I'd think that at least some people would be put off by the comprehensive Gentoo handbook... if it gets more people using it, then all the better!

    Maybe if the option still exists to do it the current way then perhaps you'll be more l337 for being among the few left taking that route :p

    Doesn't really look like it.

    So far none of the screenshots would suggest that the operating system itself has been improved enough to even pass as a new version of the OS...

    Unfortunately, I can't help but wonder how many people will see the screenshots and go "Ooh, i like the theme, this looks good..." without even noticing the important points like "Is it smaller and faster?" or "How long before the crapware event horizon" etc... Nope, new OS, it must be good!

    My expectations for this OS are pretty low... the "Shut Do..." option doesn't inspire much confidence really...

    ...for a younger sibling/child to wander up to your box and type: dd if=/dev/null of=/boot/vmlinuz In seriousness though, he almost makes a good point by saying that anyone compromising the account has access to whatever's in your $HOME anyway... but surely anyone would realise that it doesn't mean you can just give away access to the rest of the system as well?! It's almost like inviting people to start installing rootkits and suchlike...

    The ability to be able to closely watch individual atoms perform their trickery and as a result prove older theories/bring up new questions allows chemists/physicists to make new advances in the field of nanotechnology, as an example. Funny things happen on this small a scale, and there are forces at work which don't manifest themselves in the same way on the macroscopic scale - as such these systems that can now be (indirectly) observed are harder to predict mathematically. Knowing how they interact during phases changes can help to understand how they can be controlled.
