The success of Android (Java) and iOS (Objective-C) showed us that allowing several languages on a platform just adds unnecessary complexity. One language is sufficient to develop great applications.
I put a Get OpenOffice button on my website. That may not be much but still too many people use m$ word just because they don't know ooffice exists. So a marketing campaign can help the same way it did for firefox.
Yes I'm also looking forward to that. I'm curious to why they choose cristalspace over ogre3d though. They probably found that using crystalspace would be easier as ogre3d doesn't implement a full game engine, despite its popularity.
This makes me wonder when windows will finally have a centralized update system. It seems that every single software has it's own update system. If you install enough softwares on your computer, I'm sure you can spend your weeks just updating them all.
...a lost cause pushed by a multi billion dollars company. I don't know the numbers, but I would guess that M$ does a good chunk of their revenues through office so they are not going to abandon it like that. And making sure that all the documents that travel around are in microsoft office default's format is a good way to lock in their clients.
Let's just hope ODF will keep spreading in France before Microsoft starts attacking too seriously with OOXML. We saw with Dadvsi how companies can influence the French government and I hope this won't happen again.
Doesn't sound like linus for me. Do we have a proof that he actually wrote that or is there someone who thought "Hey I will create the biggest troll ever in telling to people on the Gnome mailing list to use KDE, and sign with linus's name". And if this is the case, if may be laughing by reading slashdot today.
Well, actually, I think that one of the main issues in linux audio is the quality of the drivers for the soundcards. Even if most of the basic functionnalities of the soundcards are supported today, which allow people to play mp3s and watch movies on linux, the advanced functionnalities often don't work.
Maybe any of you could give me their advice on which soundcard is fully supported under linux? Take care, the alsa database at http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/ doesn't give too much details on the advanced features of the soundcards like:"does the front panel of a soundblaster extigy 2 ZS platinum work?" or "can I plug an external midi keyboard on my soundcard?"
Thanks for your replies

I guess that would be 0.999...5
They should add support for the Motorola i1. It's (in the USA) the only pay as you go phone with android, and it runs android v1.5.

I discovered raytracing by looking at that http://tirania.org/blog/archive/2007/Nov-16.html . It's a fun way to quickly see how raytracing works :-)
