Keep it up Microsoft. Remember, it's a case of when - not if. You're helping to bring that date closer =)

Why are you Americans putting up with this crap? Governments have been violently overthrown for less than what the current administration has done.

Yes, but you still have some kind of pseudo-democracy.

Why do I not hear of any collective group being formed to help inform Joe Public and try and rally some support? Power in numbers! Don't stand for what is currently being dished out to you. It's insulting.

  9. Re:Fighting for Market Share of a Free Product on Firefox Continues to Bite into IE Usage · · Score: 1

    Absolutely. It's the lock-in game.

You see, in the future, you have Avalon. Microsoft really want everyone to adopt Avalon for these "next-gen" developments.

Mozilla and everyone else wants developers to use browser-based web applications using DHTML tech. Then, it doesn't matter which OS or browser you use, it just bloody works.

IE cannot lose a majority share in the browser market. Or else developers will say "Screw IE. Lets just code our web-app with XForms, javascript, CSS3, etc.". Microsoft loses - big.

At the same time, IE cannot adopt all the new web tech (XForms, CSS3, etc.) because otherwise it will fully allow developers to use DHTML tech, not Avalon.

Again, you have to keep in mind that Microsoft are not inventors, nor innovators. They are evil in the sense that they have this current stranglehold thanks to key lock-in technologies. MS Office, DirectX, and IE6's intentional lack of support.

MS Office is crumbling thanks to OpenOffice. DirectX is (very) slowly starting to crumble thanks to Wine/Transgaming and now IE is just a bag of worms with a potential lose/lose situation for Microsoft.

Ooh. It sucks to be them. I give them 5 years.

  10. Re:What a bunch... on EDS: Linux is Insecure, Unscalable · · Score: 1

This "study" almost definitely had a pre-determined outcome. Because they've previously done an internal study a few years ago.

Look, EDS is largely crap. It sells and supports crap on Windows with a bit of Unix on the side.

Unix will, at best, maintain a minority share of OS's. Open Source OS's currently are competing against Windows and will simply get better. To start bringing Linux into the company means entire restructuring as well as getting competent techies in. It means less profit for them. There's also the small point of then having to compete against IBM if they adopted Linux.

Expect more badmouthing from EDS in the near future. Because their existing business model depends on it.

(Note: Sorry if you're a competent EDS employee. But most of your fellow EDS workers are pretty bad.)

  11. Re:Um...WTFN? on IE7 Details Emerge · · Score: 2, Insightful

Simple answer: Avalon. DHTML tech is pretty bloody good at the moment. If Microsoft allowed it to get better then it really doesn't matter which OS you use. Same tactics with OpenGL/DirectX, Exchange, etc. You have to keep in mind that they are not innovators. Their competitors have superior technology most/all of the time. Locking people in is the only way they can sustain profit.

These "things" have far too many bloody rights and leeway as it is. They aren't "natural people" but are treated as such too often.

Providing them further opportunities to increase their profit margins without giving anything back is simply not good. It ultimately benefits nobody but shareholders and overpaid directors. IMHO =)

Anyway, more on-topic, these actions in the industry make me question how far the balance of money and love for the art is going to be pushed. It's pretty sad.
