  1. When I was in HS... on HS Students Steal SSNs to Prove They Can · · Score: 1

I broke into my school's netware directory just because the sysadmin was such a S*B. I changed access rights and passwd of a random account and browsed around to find out the sysadmin had usernames and passwords for every account written in a text file. I then printed the whole thing and anonymously pinned it on the main bulletin board.

  2. As much as... on U.S. Rejects Canadian Rejection of DMCA · · Score: 1

Capitalism can be a good thing, extremism in anything is always bad. Altius, citius, fortius is bull, how about libertas, parilitas, fraternitas.

  3. I stopped reading the letter... on Streaming Audio 10 Years Old · · Score: 1

when I saw "it's not an elite club"...

  4. Re:a proposal to protect the artists. on Canadian ISP to Name Music Swappers · · Score: 1

  5. Re:No - we're doomed. on Sea Life Wiped Out by Neutron Star Collision? · · Score: 1

In a hundred years, we could rebuild the world if we knew we were all going to die. Extinction of the human race can be a good motivating factor to get research moving even faster. But, just look at the last 100 years and try to imagine what we will achieve during the next 100 years. Now imagine a 100 years period in 1000 years from now. 1000 years on the earth's timescale isnt even a (blink of a eye) so this is unlikely to happen anytime soon. Anyway, just like a lot of things in life, there is nothing we can do but keep faith.

  6. I never expected school... on Bill Gates Proclaims US High Schools Obsolete · · Score: 1

...to teach me really concrete and usefull stuff. Although the basics that school teached me served me well in building my actual knowledge, I think school is only a facilitator in your own learning process. We should not leave it to school to teach us what we need to know in our life. Gates is wrong, for the simple fact that what we need to know is: 1- The basics 2- What we want to know. Anyway, Gates is contradicting himself here. How can he expect him to hire creative people if all they know is what school teached them?
