I almost completely agree with you, except there still isn't a great solution for one's car.
I have yet to see a main stream hard drive based MP3 player for an automobile. I have seen a couple hacks, and I think one of the new BMW's had "full" iPod integration, then there is the iTrip and other music players that transmit to your FM radio but they are less than great by most accounts.
Me and my friends were trying to figure this out and the best we could come up with was lack of demand (although that's what marketing people are for), problems with a car's constant vibrations causing hard drive failure unless solid state memory is used then it cost more, and simply getting the data to the car would require either a removable hard drive or memory sticks.
I might try and rig one together at some point so if you know of any other issues I might encounter reply. Would the vibrations from a car affect a normal hard drive that much anyways?
It's name slips my mind but there was a game where you could choose where and the what degree to apply force to a model of a person. It would then fall down a flight of stairs and you got points for how much potential damage you caused.
It wasn't violent though because you as the protagonist were trying to commit insurance fraud or something to that extent... good times.
Unless they spent every last penny on the PC that, to me, is foolish
When I bought my gaming PC last year I didn't spend every last penny I had on it. I did spend every last penny of my electronic toy fund on it though. My other pennies went to tuition, food, and rent.
I'd much rather have a really good PC as opposed to a crappy low end PC and crappy low end Mac. Also I don't have room for that many machines so the one that I want, is the one I purchase.
Foolish isn't buying a PC to play games, foolish is not understanding how someone uses a computer for something you don't.
Looks like the next generation of consoles is going to burn holes in gamers' wallets even moreso than the current generation.
If I recall didn't the current generation of consoles premier with a price tage of about $300, and if I recall the Nintendo 64 and some of the consoles before were close to that. And more so $60 for a game isn't unheard of.
A better question would be at how much of a loss are these being sold?
That's the point though, there's no need for a big company to get involved, not everyone wants you to get to your files from their computer, those that want you to can install an ssh client, then you can.
And again if people wanted you VPNing in or out then they should set the firewall to allow it. A really restrictive firewall is going to stop you from the big company product you want to be created.
Looking back that had a bit more of a flaming tone to it then I intended but anyways:
There will never be universal sign on systems for all computers because what works best for one job doesn't work best for all, there's no need for such a system on the K6 in my room running a UT server. But that's past the point.
There's no need for a big company to make a system for getting all of your files over the net where ever you are, systems like that exist. I can SSH into my home computer from any computer connected the net and have all of my files, I can mount my remote drives, or I can even remote desktop in. When I'm at home I can VPN into my work and access everything like I was directly in the server room.
And while this might not be integrated into the desktop any desktop that wants you to be able to do this can easily have a working client installed.
Sure a company might be able to add some shine to it but basically what you seem to want is already in place.
a universal "My Docs" folder that I can save to and load from across all apps across all plateforms ya know
So what we need is some sort of system that can "serve" us the files we want when we are away, perhaps we could even connect these "servers" to other "servers" and make a chain, or better yet a web! Of course we would need some sort of Transferring Protocol for these Files for this to work... I'll be sure to head down to the store and pick up this crazy software suite in my flying car the second it comes out...
is there any reason why the noble gasses couldn't have been put at the left of the table instead of the right?
The way the periodic table is setup there are some generalizations you can make such as you go to the right on it the elements become less reactive, Hydrogen, Sodium, Lithium etc are all very volatile, the inert or noble gasses, not so much.
As I think was decided in the Grokster case recently intent is a huge part of it. The purpose of Google is to find material, if you use it to find illegal material that is your fault. This guys site was for finding copyrighted material, it's really hard to argue the legitimacy of a website when it is filled with nothing but illegal material.
When I buy something impusively it's because I want it now. And except for the case of some newer games where I can download and purchase entirely online, this means hopping into my car, driving to the store, and wasting large sums of money. I've been far too overstimulated by the media to wait entire days for something to be shipped to me.
Actually FAT32 can support up to around 2 terrabytes, MS scandisk has a limitation of around 132 gigs or so. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_Allocation_Table #FAT32
This article has been up for a while and I see no comments, someone fix the system soon I need my opinion on this matter told to me pronto.

Eep bunch of typos above, I found the site of the game. http://taat.fi/taat/porrasturvat/ It's called Porrasturvat or Stair Dismount in english.

Your impending cease and desist order would be fun to see on the web.

It's slashdot, the vast majority is watching.
Additionally all Seagate drives come with a 5 or 6 year warranty. Can't beat that.
Maybe people will finally start paying homage to Ra again.
