  1. Celibacy on RMS Views on Linux, Java, DRM and Opensource · · Score: 5, Funny

To become a saint in the church of Emacs does not require celibacy.
And strangely enough if this rule changed not a single one of the saints would notice a difference.

  2. Re:Sucks for the kids... on A Decrease in M-Rated Sales to Kids · · Score: 1

Actually M rated games are for people 17 years of age and older while AO rated games are for people 18 years of age and older.

The difference is generally nudity, because it's okay to kill at 17, but screwing before 18 is immoral.

I worked as an intern at my high school's IT department. One of the biggest problems was students stealing mouse balls.

Solution, super glue the bottom of the mice on. Sure they wouldn't work so well once they got dirty and you couldn't clean em but eh, that's what the bastards get.

I believe in a Jimi Hendrix biography released not too long ago it talked about gay tendencies he had, meaning a world where Jimi Hendrix kisses guys would be the world that is real.

  13. Re:The right side? Yeah.... on First RIAA Lawsuit to Head to Trial · · Score: 1

Generally if someone is allowing a song to be downloaded the easiest way of seeing what the song is would be, brace yourself, to download it.

  14. Re:Money and technology on First RIAA Lawsuit to Head to Trial · · Score: 1

Oh they're fully aware of this and that's why there is a tax on most recordable media I believe, to help them recoup some of the cost. Also often they charge with not downloading but allowing people to download from you and as a result you are redistributing their work.

  15. Re:The right side? Yeah.... on First RIAA Lawsuit to Head to Trial · · Score: 1

Most the time the charge isn't downloadign but rather allowing the people to upload said music. So they just search a P2P network for "Britney Spears" and can sue every IP that comes up.

  18. Re:Well I bet one thing... on MA Governor Wants More New Tech · · Score: 1

Bit of a mistake in the above stat, saying Romney was responsible for the funding cuts from 2001 to 2004 isn't quite fair seeing how he wasn't in office in 2001. The general idea still stands. Ask most teachers in a Massachusetts the top ten people they would like to spit on alive today and I can almost guarantee he'll be up there.

  19. Well I bet one thing... on MA Governor Wants More New Tech · · Score: 1

I bet one thing that would help the state of Education in this country is if Public Universities were properly funded.

Mitt Romney has cut funding to UMass and other state schools 32.6% between 2001 and 2004.
Just yesterday there was a rally about how we aren't getting funded.

MA is the only state that spends less money on higher education now than it spent ten years ago. I'm so glad we have good Ole Mitt fighting the good fight.

  20. What version of OSX? on Jobs Offers Free Mac OS X For $100 Laptops · · Score: 1

Now these laptops definitely aren't going to be using Mac Hardware so what version of OSX would it be? Did the offer mean that they would have to include hardware to allow the x86 version of OSX to run or would it simply run as is.

Price being one of the main issues it seems like additional hardware would be an obvious no-no. So does this mean that it was going to be OSX running on native x86?

I haven't been following the whole Mac to Intel thing too closely but I was under the impression that most likely not any old PC would be able run OSX.

If off the shelf hardware wasn't going to run the version of OSX offered it seems like not being full OSS isn't the only issue it was turned down. Did Jobs know this prior to the offer for a little extra boost of the public's image of Mac or is that just my "don't trust the man"-sense tingling a little prematurely.

  24. Re:Thank God... on The People Vs. Common Sense · · Score: 1

Not sticking up for the big guy but it was my understanding that originally Thou Shalt not Kill was basically a crappy translation, a more accurate one would be something like Thou Shalt Not Commit First or Second Degree Homocide, which generally excludes casualties war. Now if you would like to reference one of the many many other contradictions in the Bible or comment on how killing everyone probably wasn't such a great idea that's fine too. Even this though you need to remember is the word of God, transcribed by man. I'm sure a lot of slashdotters played telephone when they were younger, now throw in there a group of people in charge who have an agenda, add a few thousand years and you get the Bible.
