    2. I created a new field of science growing plants without requiring light at all. Every agricultural science college I've applied to has soundly denied me.

    If the MAC address isn't part of the IP packet then how does a router know which data packet was intended for which machine behind which router?

    Because this seems to state otherwise you would NOT be able to identify the machine: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MAC_address

    Camfrog (an internet program) bans by MAC address. So does IRC servers. MAC is still part of the TCP/IP protocol. I can ban forum members on my forums by their MAC address, so I am not sure you're on your game regarding what you're talking about. MAC is THE BASIS for most of OSI Layer 2.

    Texas, Nevada, Wisconsin, New Hampshire, Ontario, CA and Vancouver, CA are completely down, no wonder there are so many DNS propagation requests at this time.

    This problem is not as bad when the network health is better globally and in my local continental region.

    Because it forces a refresh of the DNS with every restart, so I can get a connection for an hour or two before it dies again.

    Hi, I used to work for Stream doing RR tech support. This is a COMMONLY KNOWN RR issue and has been since the 90s.

    And I do have a packet sniffer looking for RST commands on the coax before the modem, none are being received so they're not PURPOSELY interrupting my service, but tons of DNS updates are coming through.

    Which would correlate quite nicely with USA, Europe, and Asia's network status being just under 75% with some rather heavy packet loss - BAD DNS is quite often such a cause for bad network performance ratings like what I'm seeing globally right now.

    Yay internettrafficreport for being such a useful tool to observe WTF is happening so you can determine if you're having a local issue or if it's more widespread.

    Hahahaha that's rich. I can grow super-nutritious crops without light at all (and some more complex crops with minimal light and still produce viable yields,) inside of a controlled environment, so as long as you don't mind being a health nut foodie for a while you'll survive.

    How about you come over and watch it happen for yourself? That's a fully open invitation with full-paid plane ticket and couch space. And when you see me prove to you hands-down that it's DNS all the way (and I'm not switching to Google because their DNS propagation is slow as balls,) you get to swallow ten of my fresh bhut jolokia peppers as an "I told you so" and I get to record it and post it on youtube.

    Deal? I just spent last week helping the Redlands Police Department track down the source of some random pair of video signals coming into my and other people's apartment (over-powered baby video monitor.)

    I'm down for the next challenge. Please, come on by. Developing the tech for growing plants without light at all was much more complicated.

    By domain name, of course. You do know how to use a wildcard in your config script, yes?
    *.akamai.net

    You can also implement a blacklist by IP address. It's quite simple to find out which IP addresses are currently allocated to Akamai.

    Adios Akamai with specialized whitelist exceptions for certain components to get some sites to work properly.

    And I have to repeat the settings in NoScript as well but of course that's pretty trivial.
