If only most people could go to a store where knowledgeable sales staff could demonstrate Win 7 multitouch on long rows of demo devices in a comfortable space. The computer stores around me with Windows PCs lock down the demo units with awkward devices, start trying to sell you instead of helping you explore, and don't have much patience/interest if you're "just looking".
Apple stores play no small part in the success of their devices.
I've seen this mentioned in other places - where are you getting the idea that iLife will be included with Leopard? It won't be. What will be included are some apps that previously only shipped with new hardware: Photo Booth and Front Row. If you want iLife 08 your options now and later will be to either buy a new Mac, all of which are bundled with iLife - or purchase it as a separate product.
I just subscribed to the Daily Show. I don't have cable and the video quality is better than the files I've found on YouTube or other places online. The "subscription" title is a bit misleading - this is more like subscribing to a podcats - iTunes automatically downloads new episodes as they are made available. You can opt-in to an email notifying you that a new episode is available. It's more like a magazine subscription than a music service subscription since you get to keep the video files you've downloaded even if you don't renew the subscription. Kind of like buying an album on iTunes where they send you a song a week automatically. The DRM is the same as for any other song or video you buy on iTunes. Not a bad model for my needs.
Damn, I've been duped by popular culture into liking Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, and Radiohead. I sure feel stupid now. Thanks for explaining this to me.
Yeah! Last month when I paid a company to use their carpet cleaning machine for a day I read that agreement they made me sign and said "Screw this - it's anti-consumer!" and I kept the cleaner. Contracts are stupid!
We shouldn't have to return videos to the video store either! Down with The Man!!
Well - selling what most people want is not the only way to have a profitable business. Companies that focus on mass-market computing face stiff competition and razor-thin margins. If you want to actually make money, you will carve out a niche that you can charge a premium for.
I felt the quake here in Capitola - about 20 miles from the epicenter. I've been through several quakes in the last 12 years here (including the '89 Loma Prieta) and this was strong enough to kick off my internal "oh shit" alarm and have me standing up in doorway.
What's the relevance to slashdot? Folks, Silicon Valley is smack in the middle of prime earthquake country (remember Superman-the movie?) It's easy to forget how a major quake in Santa Clara county could damage the tech industry here, but a minor earthquake like this is going to have folks in the area thinking about it.
Actually the "fitter happier" voice is the Bruce MacInTalk Pro voice that is part of MacOS. You can paste the lyrics into SimpleText on a Mac and get your very own live performance.
"no models in the very near future" , eh? Is a week and a half that far away? Macword NY is the middle of this month and it is widely held that new Macs will debut there.

I can assure you that we have full diplomatic immunity in 84 countries around the globe.

I think Steve Jobs summed this up nicely years ago:
"Real artists ship"
