All this work for a less than honorable cause. Just think what could be if all this human effort had been channeled through a charity, say Habitat for Humanity, your local food bank, or teaching someone to read.
The tool is what you make of it. Say a charity or human rights group wants to distribute a video but doesn't have the money to pay for bandwidth. Would you call it a waste of money then?
I'm amazed at the number of people verifying that this works by trying to recreate it. Why bother writing a self-replicating virus, just post it on Slashdot!
I've been using Ubuntu for a couple of years now and it was the first distro that I'd tried (and I'd tried a fair few) that made me seriously consider deleting my windows partition. Far less bloated than most of it's competitors, easy yet not patronising install, fantastic stable repository and most of all, they really encompass the friendly, open spirit of Linux, as evident on the forums and mailing lists.
People can laugh and make camwhore references but at the end of the day, a large majority of windows users use it primarily for chat. With another major step towards a client that matches msn messenger in usability and functionality, I'm sure a lot more people will begin to be converted.
I have a perfectly good mp3 player too, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't mind not lugging it around when I'm playing games. Extra functionality when implemented well can be a good thing.
"Of course, the question is whether they will support such items as Asterisk and FreeWorld or will they simply buy another company and tinker from that end."
My spidey sense tells me some beta services are approaching.

Indeed there is, it's called cyanide and I'd be happy to administer it.
'offtopic: anyone know how to stop windows from swapping when there is 500mb+ of free ram?' The obvious solution would be to install linux.
