So I made the big mistake. Now I need help.
I had a pirated copy of XP running that failed WGA and I decided to go straight, bought myself a copy of Vista Home Premium OEM edition. I built the computer, I am the OEM, no problem - right?.
But now, nothing works (big suprise, I know). My life is one big mess of drivers that won't install and peripherals that won't work (scanner, media card reader, USB drives, video card, audio card, ?USB driver... the list goes on).
I WANT TO GO BACK TO XP, but I don't own XP. Can I downgrade? Specifically, how do I do it? (I can't find how) Can I trade? (who would want to trade?)
Amazing to think that the human brain is somehow a benchmark for reliability. "Our brains keep working despite frequent failures of their component neurons" - right, sometimes. As a neurology resident, I spend most of my time witnessing and trying to fix the failures... some of the craziest stuff you can imagine. The failures are spectacular - loss of memory, speech, understanding, motor function, balance, etc - sometimes predictible, often not. Between seizures, strokes, enecphalopahty, meningitis, hemorrhages, aneurysms, tumors, and whatever else you might come up with, it is amazing we live as long as we do. Hey, maybe there is something to that - I'm re-considering my original premise.
I haven't had these problems with Comcast, but they certainly charge "what the market will bear".
Any suggestions for people who want to run a small-volume webserver at home at better speeds than Comcast or other cablemodem ISPs will offer? I just want to serve my Gallery photos at a decent clip...
Didn't the old Prodigy service (a competitor to Compuserve, in the days before AOL) get a bad rap for a similar offense? Grabbing personal info and uploading it back to the Borg?
I don't see it on Google Maps:

Up close and personal - the long version:

Any help much appreciated, thanks.
