    more like the other way around. cafeteria food is far from being healthy, and a lot of cafeterias have a contract with fast food companies. yes, there is a very dry, boring salad, and there somethimes is an alternative, but overall you can bring much healthier food from home.

    doesn't the american education system use macs? so where's the "fear of microsoft"?

    in my current school, I don't think that there is one windows box in the whole building (on the other hand, most of the desktops run MacOS9, which is a really bad OS, but they are starting to switch to OSX).

    I have one on my linux machine, and it can display kernel panics as well. the kernel may have not panicked whe the screensaver appeared, but I certainly did!

    did your computer ever restart sopntaneously? there's a new "feature" in WinXP causing that your computer will restart before you can see the BSOD.

    actually, the whole way realist hacking is done is much more glamorous. I am not proficient in the details, but I have read some explanations about a few ways it is done, and it's much neater than having it be a piece of cake.

    for example, a complicated hack that involvs googling upload.asp and then uploading an asp trojan to the site (real scenario, apparantly), or by using a certain SUID to gain illegal access.

    don't you think that that's much more dramatic and unpredictable that "oh, let's write something on the keyboard... wow! a wierd screen with 'root@localhost:~#" on it"?

    ummm... it installs a local proxy server and then sets the local proxy to contact google in a special way. this means that it is a binary.

    while my knee-jerk reaction was "well, paul has already demonstrated how trustworthy he is (see SCO article)", he actually has some valid points. mainly, pointing out that the average joe sixpack compares 6 year old iMacs running OS9 to modern PCs running WinXP and Linux.

    when looking at the sales of hp compaq, we see that propiatary software seems to become more and more css-based. power users like to apply terminal emulation to old compluters.

    another big mistake is to say that patiphones correspond to intel's pentium. while still correspoding to microsofts playsforsure initiative, BEOS still doesn't fully implement ebay.
