Exactly. The whole point is I don't WANT to leave home.
If I'm going to drive to blockbuster -- why fiddle w/ ipod connections, and download nonsense when I could just get a DVD.
I want the movie to start streaming the moment I hit the download button on my computer/tv/what have you.
CDbaby is owned by a fellow named Derek whom I've interviewed with. He's a frontline geek with very high ideals (read his blog: http://www.cdbaby.org/stories.php?topic=7) who has happened to make a business out of it.
He's also providing an excellent resource for independent musicians, and charging very reasonable rates.
Since he has specific inside information about the industry and obviously is part of the slashdot community, I really can't think of a more appropriate nerd to comment on this article.
I'm guessing that a lot of employees will be laid off as they merge products and HR and PR and all the other little departments.
While this is going to make one mega-company, my feeling is that it's bad news for everyone but the shareholders.
With a lack of competition a lot products may go the way of IE 6.
I can only hope that the laid off employees and others band together to turn out the firefox of dreamweaver/illustrator/flash/fireworks.
