  1. No other possible comparison on Keyboards are Good; Mouses are Dumb · · Score: 1

If you could type with a mouse, it would be a keyboard. A mouse isn't supposed to take the place of the kb, but that's how most people use it. It does a pretty fair selection of functions, enough to satify the needs of *most people who aren't trying to do work on a computer*, ie most of the online US if not the world.

  2. My Take on 'Anti-Corporate Nonsense' on SCO Missing 16,209 Files? · · Score: 1

The problem, AFAICS, is that over the years, corporations have been given rights and conceptual properties by court decision or decree, that don't stand to reason. Many disagreements over just what rights are properly accorded to a publicly funded private entity, but I think it's fair to say that even some corporations disagree as well. Therefore, even an 'ethical corporation' can be party to abuse, especially if the primary job of the corporate board of directors is to maximise the value to stockholders or other minority partners by any legal means, which is what I have been given to understand is the case.

I'm sure that he was talking about 'Christmas and Easter Catholics' type of christians. Christianity is supposed to be a religion of forgiveness and kindness. A difference between the religions of the book, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Druse, and Bahai, is that Christianity and Bahai were not originally warrior religions like Judaism and Islam (I don't know enough about Druse to say, but speculate that it is a warrior religion, as an offshoot of Islam). The 'Christian soldiers' thing is a construct of European/British culture.

From what I have read, W has already betrayed his brother too, Condoleeza Rice is in the batter's box. That's one that scares me.

One thing that has me outraged is that he has apparently reneged on his campaign of decency, legal gay unions have been shored up in New York, California and Connecticut, abortion shows no sign of being halted and schools still can't make you pray, but the christians have taken off their political goggles, and can't see that he chumped them in a big way.

Kinda vindicates my opinion of American christianity.

Never heard the Nixon quote, to the effect of "it is not illegal if the president does it" which seems to show that his mindset was unclear about the difference between unethical and illegal as well.

  7. putting your $0.02 to work on Kernel Changes Draw Concern · · Score: 2, Interesting

It sounds like a market to me, compiling kernels that only do what the customer wants to use them to do, I was under the impression that's why you have an IT staff, but what do I know? Apparently CA only wants to use default distro kernels, or doesn't know how easily a kernel compiles. Of course, he may be criticizing the fact that gamer types and other non-enterprise programmers write what *they want*, instead of what *he wants*, that's easy, put a couple of those guys on the payroll, or was free beer the only reason CA got on board? Am I wrong or are they CA the ones that bought the Linux license from SCOX? So many questions.

  8. Not dishonest vs. failure to be honest on Verizon CEO Calls Municipal Wi-Fi 'a Dumb Idea' · · Score: 1

"Seidenberg said it's not Verizon's responsibility to correct the misconception by giving out statistics on how often Verizon's service works inside homes or by distributing more detailed coverage maps, showing all the possible dead zones. He pointed out that there are five major wireless networks, none of which works perfectly everywhere." So he has nothing to complain about when Verizon's reception and dropped calls reviews are compiled on a web page, the info has to come from somewhere, and since V's not telling...

  9. Transcriptions... on SCO Website Using Groklaw's Content · · Score: 1

... In a magnanimous display of cordiality, PJ and/or transcriptionists should loudly proclaim that SCOX IS GRANTED THE RIGHT TO PUBLISH THESE WORKS IN THEIR ORIGINAL FORM, except that from now on a generic copyright statement would be a good idea, to let these guys look as bad as they act. Just a suggestion

  10. Re:Court documents on SCO Website Using Groklaw's Content · · Score: 1

The point is that the scanned documents (image file) are either OCRed, or hand transcribed as text or PDF files. It is on that *finished product* that SCOX is infringing or possibly plagiarizing. If they just downloaded the scans from Groklaw, they would not be guilty of anything on that score.

  11. I'll answer for artists on When Would You Accept DRM? · · Score: 1

Usually, the bulk of a given artist's revenue is not from recording, but from concert tours and live shows. If you wait for a recording contract to put bread on your table by itself, you will have a very bare table in most cases. I don't disagree with artists making money from their recordings, the sad truth is that they usually see little in terms of royalties, after the advances and auxiliary services are repaid. Personally, a record company would have to really court me to get me to sign, I like being a live musician. Plus I get to keep my money.

How is it possible that the Patent Office can hide the fact that something is patent pending, is this an attempt to deliberately submarine a patent?
