As you can see by the photos, this is just a normal planetary bunghole.
It's purpose is to allow built-up & excess planetary gases a place to expel.
Every so many years it simply fires off.
We have a similar place on Earth. It's called the Middle East.
(Although ours is ringed with pimples)
