  1. Attention time travelers . . . on Kathleen Fent Read This Story · · Score: -1, Offtopic

. . . as well as those very very few beings that can edit the universe:

The following message found it's way into my inbox. It obviously is not intended for me, because if I knew how to edit the universe or travel in time I'd be doing something besides posting one comment every two minutes in the Kathleen Fent and Love versus Osama and Terrorism crap flood fest -- I'd probably mass post this story straight to the top, and the get one with the task of traveling back in time to visit beautiful women in history. But I digress. Since this message is not intended for me, I can only hope that the time travelers or those very very few beings that can edit the universe will read this story with their thresholds set as low as 2.

    Subject: Time Travelers PLEASE HELP!!!!

(long line of hyphens used to be here, deleted in attempt to get this important message through the lameness filter.)

message: If you are a time traveler or alien disguised as human and or have the technology to travel physically through time I need your help!

My life has been severely tampered with and cursed!!
I have suffered tremendously and am now dying!

I need to be able to:

    Travel back in time.

Rewind my life including my age back to 4.

Be able to remember what I know now so that I can prevent my life from being tampered with again after I go back.

I am in very great danger and need this immediately!

I am aware that there are many types of time travel, and that humans do not do well through certain types.

I need as close to temporal reversion as possible, as safely as possible. To be able to rewind the hands of time in such a way that the universe of now will cease to exist.
I know that there are some very powerful people out there with alien or government equipment capable of doing just that.

If you can help me I will pay for your teleport or trip down here, Along with hotel stay, food and all expenses. I will pay top dollar for the equipment. Proof must be provided.

Please be advised that any temporal device
that you may employ must account for X, Y, and Z coordinates as well
    as the temporal location.
I have a time machine now, but it has limited abilitys and is useless without
a vortex. If you can provide information on how to create vortex generator or
where I can get some of the blue glowing moon crystals this would also
    be helpful.

I am aware of two types of time travel one in physical form and the other in energy form where a snapshot of your brain is taken using either the dimensional warp or an electronic device and then sends your consciousness back through time to part with your younger self. Please explain
how safe and what your method involves.

Also if you are one of the very, very, few beings with the ability to edit the universe PLEASE REPLY!!!

Only if you have this technology and can help me exactly as mentioned
please send me a (SEPARATE) email to: IneedTimeTravel@aol.com

Please do not reply if your an evil alien!
    Thanks

I found the acm.org's site search to be unuseable on linux/mozilla, which is ironic -- however, a google search on "soviet site:acm.org" turned up some interesting papers available as pdf (special tribute to Russian Dmitry Sklyarov ?):

The Soviet Bloc's Unified System of Computers by N.C. Davis and S.E. Goodman -- this talks about the "Ryad" s/360 clones.

Computing in the Former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe -- more an overview, but has a biography.

There are more, but the google search page is probably the place to go, rather than me cutting-and-pasting it here.

What is "peer to peer" about c2it ? As far as I can tell, it is a system where a transaction moves money in accounts on a central computer. Isn't that what paypal is ?

Also, VISA, MasterCard, American Exprese, and the other associations you so breathlessly refer to aren't peer to peer either.

I think you are confusing the term "peer to peer" with the idea of allowing account holders who normally only deposit paychecks and then buy things to also receive other payments into the account. But letting each account be a "merchant account" is not peer to peer, it's just a shift in the way people are using money.

A peer to peer payment system would not require that you have an account with some corporation. It would associate a person with a GPG or PGP key, and whether or not to trust the IOU or payment would be up to the receiving party, using something like PGP's web of trust. In that case the account creation, decisions about trustworthyness, and all the other details of a payment system are pushed down to the user level -- each person can be his own bank, so to speak, and they are all equal in the eyes of the protocol and system (but not in the eyes of other users, perhaps). That's peer to peer.
