  1. Re:10 was arbitrary on Unique Visitors = 1/10th of Unique IPs? · · Score: 1

I believe Max Fomitchev is plain wrong. To count unique users most websites won't use an IP counter, but cookies. And cookies are more likely to undercount, if several people share one computer (and haven't set up separate accounts on that machine) - although that's probably balanced out by people logging on both at home and at work.

  2. Re:From the BBC Press release on BBC Trial of TV Show Download Service · · Score: 1

There are two conditions for using the service: fast internet access, and being a UK television license fee payer. Not quite sure how they will resolve this, but the BBC is making extensive use of Geo IP and suchlike. So non-Brits should have trouble watching BBC programmes for free.
Why Geo-IP and Brits only? It's a question of television rights. AFter all the BBC generates a lot of money by selling programmes abroad, which it ploughs back into its programme making.

Not sure whether Apple fans should crow over this... the more people move to OS X, the more juicy a target it will be.
So what's next - massive Apple hacks?
