If I spent all the time required to configure a typical Linux desktop so that it would stop pissing me off, I'd never get any work done. Settings should be sane by default.

It is okay to borrow a book, yes, because you are only borrowing it. Downloading an mp3 from someone is NOT borrowing. The file is being copied. It is being copied by people who do NOT hold the copyright to the work. Just as it is illegal for someone to photocopy a book and sell it or give it away, it is illegal for someone to copy music and sell it or give it away. You can argue if you feel copyright itself is right or wrong, but as it stands now you cannot equate copying an mp3 without permission of the copyright holder to borrowing a book whatsoever; It is illegal, plain and simple.
If you want to really spend taxpayer money to do "good thing", then spend it all directly on doing "good things". Don't spend it on a space program because a few good things might come out of it later.
If you're interested in a text-based mmorpg, then Achaea is it. It's free too.
I don't even care if I get modded off topic for this. People have to play it. I've played enough Dragon Realms to uh... fill something really big... but Achaea is it man. Player run everything, great people, good login levels... etc... Go go...
This is the problem with Linux: There are two kinds of porn! If everyone would get together and work on the same porn, it would be much better. I'm stick of seeing Stallman's ass anyway.
Apple is no longer stingy with stock RAM. They all come with 512MB. They also now charge SANE prices for RAM. Go ahead, check! They also no longer sell black keyboards. They're all white now, and the fiber-optic Powerbook keyboards are brighter than ever.
Apple does offer a wireless mouse already. However, why you want to be putting even more batteries into landfills is beyond me. I don't care for latency either.
Gnome has the OK buttons always on the right so that you don't have to go hunting for them. They're always at the bottom right. Even if there are 6 six buttons, it is always in the same spot. This is unlike KDE, where I have to look for the OK button in every dialog. No it isn't a major thing, but it is this attention to detail that makes Gnome (and OS X) great in my opinion.
What are you going on about? The Xbox looks like advanced piece of technology?! It looks like a garish piece of crap! The GameCube is a small, modern looking system. I personally love mine. Just finished Resident Evil 4 today actually...
Hillary isn't calling for a ban on certain video games. What is wrong with just researching the effects of violent video games on children? If it comes out that there is no major problem, then great. If it turns out there is, then parents will be able to better understand what effects such things will have on their kids. Do I personally think it causes a problem? No way. Getting picked on in school and having your head slammed into lockers is a lot more likely to drive you mad than playing GTA. Hell, most parents incite more anger and violence in their kids than video games ever could. (You can tell where I'm coming from here.) That said, the study can't hurt, and it may provide more useful information; You could end up being surprised.

Glad to see I'm not the only one. :-)
BBEdit has it where it counts, without nonsense I don't need. The Mac integration is very nice too. Very elegant.

How could that be possible? It isn't like the editors here just post anything people submit without checking if the article was already posted.
Please, stop with this already.
Oh be quiet Linus.
You're willing to work for a company that doesn't use only free software? You're playing right into their hands!
You're working for the US military, and you're worried about the Solaris> genocide? Jesus, talk about a lack of perspective.

Exactly... the grandparent post made me feel rather ill with its brazen stupidity.

Oh hush. Not everyone wants a wireless mouse that is heavy, pollutes the environment, and possibly requires replacing batteries all the time.

Because... ATI is really bad at releasing drivers?

You want to block your daughter from using IM? I think MSN's port probing will be the least of the problem...
Well... not much to type here then.

*goes back to playing Resident Evil 4*
What are you talking about? Hillary, like her or not, certainly cannot be accused of never taking a stand on something.
