And, unfortunately, most of us who run Linux will still be considered Microsoft customers since it will be loaded on our new computers until we get them home. Unfortunately, it is nearly impossible to get a pre-built x86 box without Windows without ordering it online and paying for shipping. And most of us will never add to any total for "Linux Sales" since we run free distros that we downloaded CD/DVD ISO's for.
33. Your server has not had to reboot in over a year.
34. When you need to install a major piece of software, be it an office suite, a graphics tool, or a compiler, you do not have to drive to a store and shell out enormous amounts of money. Instead, you simply select the desired package from the package repository and it and its dependencies are installed automatically.
35. You are able to read and write a vast array of file systems - not just a handful designed by a single company.
36. You realise that those who still have Windows on their computer "because it came with it" probably have picture frames with pictures of model families who they don't know "because it came with the frame"
37. You are tired of hearing Windows users bitch about viruses and spyware as if they had not choice but to be afflicted with them.
This has to be the strangest hardware requirements I've ever heard of. Does anyone know of a way to get around that in order to recieve the text message?
What you are missing, however, is that no matter how many skins you can toss on XP it is still just XP painted a little differently. Can you get tabbed windows like Fluxbox? Multiple desktops like... err... everything? These different window managers and desktop environments all have different purposes and design goals. For a full desktop, there is Gnome (with its huge collection of themes), for something a little lighter on resources there is XFCE, for bare bones but slick as snot there are window managers like Fluxbox. For a shiny gaudy desktop whose applications all start with the same letter, there is KDE. These different interfaces don't just look different from each other, they also *work* differently.
When? Let's see... Sure, MS-Dos did what it was supposed to do, but it was purchased by Microsoft, not written by them (it was originally called Q-Dos for Quick and Dirty Operating System). They lucked into their monopoly status by winning the contract with IBM with the OS that they bought and then *really* lucked out when IBM decided to allow clone makers. Since these companies had to be able to offer the same operating system that IBM did with their shiny new machines if they were going to make a buck, Microsoft had them by the balls... and still does.
Prior to that, Bill Gates and Microsoft were known for their long overdue and bug filled version of BASIC for the Altair which a group of Hombebrew Computer Club Hackers managed to get ahold of (when a torn paper-tape was left laying on the floor at a mall demonstration) and fixed. Bill gates sent out his open letter to computer hobbiests saying that they were all evil pirates and most of the software that all of them ran was stolen.
Google has produced an effecient way of searching for information on web pages, not an insecure and poorly designed operating system that refuses to go away. Further, Google actually *did* become sucessful based on quality and innovation, whereas msft was essentially handed a monopoly when they purchased Q-Dos and licensed it to IBM. Yes, Google is big and powerful, but so far they have stuck to the "don't be evil" idea... A situation which can always change, but for the moment there is no comparison between Google and Microsoft.
Well, if they would be "burdened by using non-standard software", then there should be little argument, right? Let's see.... every major operating system except Windows is Unix or *Nix based, once you know the basics of any one, moving between them is easy. Porting applications between them is also much easier than porting to/from the previously mentioned non standard OS. So, you see, it is simple: all you have to do to avoid non standard software is to just not run Windows. Problem solved.
I have discovered a number of bands/individuals that I never would have heard of through dmusic (http://dmusic.com/) that I never would have encountered anywhere else. There is a lot of cruft to sort through, but quite a few terrific tracks as well. I haven't listened to commercial radio in many years, I just can't find anything worth hearing and what little worthwhile content their is is ruined by jarring advertisements every few minutes. My car radio is tuned to NPR, and Sirius in the bedroom brings in the BBC at night (until my wife starts demanding loudly that I turn it off and go to sleep).
You are an idiot. At least you were smart enough to realise that you are an idiot and post as an anonymous coward so as to not embarrass yourself. "They're" is a contraction for "They Are" "Their" is posessive which is what was originally meant.
Their - that which belongs to them
they're - They Are
there - that location
If you would care to read the text you will see that the form which you suggested is, of the three, the only one which could not possibly have been intended.
...researchers from the University of Southern California along with the Office of Naval Research are simulating combat situations which cause Post Traumatic Stress Disorder for theraputic purposes. There immersive virtual reality technique seems to consist of the game Full Spectrum Warrior, headphones, and a set of VR goggles.
Was that supposed to read "Their immersive" or "There, immersive"?
You can NEVER have too many revenue streams. Everybody complains about too much advertising... people do it because it works. Let them bitch. They'll come back if you are giving them what they want... pop-ups, flash banner ads or not. Make it clear you want their freaking money and be done with it.
No, they will install AdBlock, enable popup blocking, and not have to deal with the graffiti. If they find a way to get around these measures then they will lose readers because the experience of popups and web-spam is all the more jarring when you are no longer used to it having blocked ads on every site that you visit.
The alternative is to embed tasteful ads into the article text (no graphics, no animations). These ads could be static or dynamically inserted using PHP/etc. There is no way to block that, If they are kept low key they will not offend readers. If such an approach were taken, it would be good to offer an ad-free subscription option as well for those that find the site worthwhile but want to remain un-spammed.

Doing the speedlimit is obeying the law. You holding me back is not. Several states have passed what I have heard referred to as the Left Lane Vigilante law. That means if you are holding up traffic in the left lane, you will be cited, even if traffic is exceeding the speed limit. The reason that there are more than one lane is to that those who cannot or do not wish to go the max speed can MOVE TO THE RIGHT!
I personally stay to the farthest right lane which is going where I want to go. As far as the law, minimum speeds are posted. As for being cited for holding up traffic while traveling at the speed limit, that is a myth. You can not be cited for driving at the speed limit, and if you were it would be thrown out. In fact, if I am in a hurry I intentionally drive in the "fast lane" at the exact speed limit. Why? Because it is the fasted speed at which I am legally allowed to travel and those who wish to pass are in violation of the law. If they wish to speed they will have to wait until they can pass me on the right.
You have one tiny Google Ads box. While ads can be annoying, just choose non-annoying ads.
You mean there are still people who don't have AdBlock installed?

Nope, sorry. Slow down and obey the law or get off our roads. If you want to go to a race track and pay to drive fast, do so. Do not expect anyone to yield to you if you wish to behave that way on public roads, however.
Oh, and I will absolutely guarantee that the "#1 cause of accidents" is people who drive too fast, not too slow. Someone driving 5 under the speed limit is not a danger, the jack ass driving 25 *OVER* the speed is the danger.
First, I said nothing about "sacrificing safety". 5 - 10 Under the speed limit is not unsafe in any way. The posted minimum speed is 20 under. Secondly, you do not put your windows down to save gas. That creates drag and costs mileage. That is what your vents are for, use them.
Too slow? Nope. not an issue. Like I said, I am driving 5 to 10 miles under the speed limit. The minimum speed is clearly posted - it is 20 under the speed limit.
So does speed. Remember that air resistance increases exponentially. I'm a mileage fanatic. I drive a 2001 Kia Rio which is rated at 28/32. My drive is 30 miles one-way with about 3 miles of that in town. I drive 5 under the speed limit and coast whenever practical on the way in. For the first 10 miles, the expressway is 65, I go 60. Most of the remaining 20 miles is 60, I go 55. The final couple miles are 50 and I actually go 50. On my return trip, if traffic is light which it usually is after 8:00pm, I stay at 55 in the 65. My average has been 42 mpg (this is based off of somewhere around twenty tanks so it should be pretty close to a correct average). My best mileage for a tank was 47.7. Oh, also no AC (the car doesn't even have AC so I don't have to fight with my wife to keep it off), and no headlights during daylight hours.

Well I'm glad someone is writing code to solve those "prove you aren't a script" images, because a lot of times I can't quite figure them out myself.

Why is this modded "Flamebait"? First, it's accurate. Second, it's funny.
I can finally build my Linux powered Arch Welder case mod!
