Yes, that's is what they are doing but an interesting thing about the article
"Nine months ago, we started hearing from partners like Dell that spyware was a major issue. Our own data from [Dr Watson] crash reports was telling us that 30 percent of all machines had some form of spyware. It reached a point where we had to do something."
So yes they implement security but only when someone else points out that over 25% of all computers are infected with malware. Obviously this new Security concious microsoft takes some time to believe thaty they may be wrong... enjoy

Yes it is downright scamming. But do you really think that someone is going to give away something for nothing?

This is more social engineering spam rather than nasty spam, the spoof bounce messages are bad spam for the uninitiated.

Really though if it is too good to be true and they don't even know your real name (unless you use it for your email address, even then you are very silly) and it's from anonymous source why even bother.

If it is too good to be true it is. NEVER TRUST EMAIL.

its radiation cant even penetrate a sheet of paper.

Hmmm well it my A level physics is anything to go by (i did it in the last 20 years so probably not) beta radiation is high energy electrons, and 3mm of aluminium will stop them. They are bad for your health, but it takes time, usually.

Alpha particles are helium nuclei (2 protons, 2 neutrons), these are stopped by your sheet of paper. They don't penetrate skin...

then your gamma rays are not stopped by lead and are very bad.
  4. But look at previous form on Congress to Revisit the Patriot Act · · Score: 1
None of us can deny the fact they put an expiration date on this law. This feature was great forsight and will allow us to (more easily) modify or delete the Patriot Act.

Well yes i can see the foresight in putting a time limit to review the legaslature. But then again did they not already do this in Clinton's time with the Assult rifle bill (sorry i don't have the name to hand and have spent too long on google today to find out). This bill banned the sale of assult rifles; automatic weapons; large magasines etc to ordinary americans.

Every american can still get (provided they meet whatever criterion the state they are in specify) all types of firearm. This bill had a 10 year expiry, after which time it could be reviewed (this was the only way to get the bill through both houses; which at the time were, and still are, controlled by the republicans). It was however expected to be renewed as, well, automatic assult rifles really don't have a use for legal purposes.

However as Bush was in power at the time (and preoccupied with his "War on terror") and the expiry date was missed. This bill lapsed and you can now buy automatic assult rifles in america oh what foresight.

So my point is don't rely on the politicians to always do what is sensible, especially with Bush still in power and the republicans controling both houses. Hey they could still remove more of the freedoms from the land of the free....

Don't count on the act being repealed this is politics not common sense.
  5. We only get one you know on Should Nanotech Be Regulated? · · Score: 1

The point is not whether we regulate nanotech out of existance, but we should be cautious. CFC's, asbesdos, thalidomide, smoking. We are not perfect and we do not know what effect, if any, nano particles in the atmosphere have. Until a clearer picture of our understanding arises we should be cautious, we're usually wrong at some point maybe this time we can try and stop the worst happening before it does.

Nanotech may be the answer, but until we know it won't wipe the human race off the earth let's not rush in like a bull in a china shop.

  6. Re:Are you serious? on Is Leasing Really Worth It? · · Score: 1

Well you make some good points there. But it seems to me that you have oversimplified the matter at hand. Yes obviously it is about the lower value but how does one work out such a value? You have many different factors; how many machines; what do these machines need to do; are they mission critical; how much of this can we write off; how will the books look to our investors if we lease or buy.... The list goes on.

It may be that a mixed approach is called for, you may lease your bog standard workstations; buy some nice machines for your developers perhaps. It would really depend on each particular situation, i don't see how any forum could possibly answer the question in a sensible way. Go pay some consultants for their analysis or just deligate upwards...
