It shows up when you push the start key, but after you've typed in the name of the program you want to run and clicked on it...
So, I have to click, type a program name, then click again. Aren't modern GUIs great? And when you and Windows disagree as to the program "name" (i.e., the "search" fails)? [ A real example from Unity (admittedly, a while ago): I wanted the start Thunderbird, but had to type "email" for it to actually find it, even though the executable was actually named "thunderbird" - sigh. ]
Larry Page said, "We get so worried about these things that we don't get the benefits Right now we don't data-mine healthcare data. If we did we'd probably save 100,000 lives next year." By "these things," he means privacy concerns and fear that the data might be misused.
And by "probably save 100,000 lives next year" Larry means "some numbers I pulled out of my ass to make this idea sound good".
What frightens me is the idea that they could get the wrong information and give that to my doctor or insurance company.
To make matters worse, it seems impossible to get erroneous information removed. For example: My wife was misdiagnosed with asthma by an allergist. From then on, until she died 10 years later, every doctor asked her about her asthma, and she would tell them about the error. Even now, 8 years *after* she died, I still get flyers in the mail from BC/BS about asthma addressed to her.
The German government decided to abandon nuclear power after the Fukushima nuclear disaster last year, closing eight plants immediately and shutting down the remaining nine by 2022.
I didn't realize Germany was in Tsunami territory.
The other thing with ads is that I never EVER click on them.
Perhaps the way to "solve" this is for everyone to click on all the ads, all the time, polluting their database. But I don't know, I don't have a FB account...
Opting out in Facebook is like playing one of those old Flash games where you mouse around the screen, trying to find the hot spot that will accept a click.
At first I thought you wrote "Flesh games", but realized the rest of the sentence makes sense either way. (Gotta get my Dyslexia checked and, obviously, cut down on the 4chan.)
Unfortunately for them, the voters did not allow them to sway their votes and they voted for Brat anyway...or didn't you know that Cantor outspent Brat 25:1?
It was a reply about out-of-state influences in general, not Brat vs. Cantor specifically.
So only the republican party uses national funds in local races?
Interesting. My first thought was that you were just a left leaning hack that had no real interest in truth. Then I decided to not think that way and give you the benefit of the doubt. So I choose to not believe that you are just a ideological shit brain and instead I now believe that only the Republicans do this sort of nasty, horrible thing.
Your benefit of the doubt is correct - thank you and sorry for any confusion. As I responded to another comment, I just couldn't think of another big-time offender at that time -- and I said "and others", but perhaps not clear that I also meant other parties/philosophies. Out of state Conservatives and Liberals are both guilty of sticking their noses into places they don't belong in pursuit of their own, selfish, interests.
So would George Soros and any number of rich progressives and socialists. You don't need to single out the Koch Brothers.
True and I said "and others" - I just couldn't think of any other big-time offenders at that moment. Out of state Conservatives and Liberals are both guilty of sticking their noses into places they don't belong in pursuit of their own, selfish, interests.
Because we still have antiquated data lines and switches and whatnot that can only handle so much total bandwidth.
Yes, I wish these ISPs would purchase those new magic data lines and switches that can handle an unlimited amount of total bandwidth.
I'm bitching about the typing part, not the clicking. GUIs are suppose to be less work, not more - typing is more work (as the AC pointed out).
What about some of the huge downgrades in functionality that came with 8?
Audio controls being a big one.
Pardon?
You need to speak up, his audio controls are messed up.

Several people have observed that Microsoft likely is using the law as a convenient excuse for dumping an expensive delivery channel.
Wait, what? I thought Email was cheap, 'cause, you know ... spam.
Does a "dumb phone" exist?
Sure. The Qualcomm QCP-1900 I bought in 1998 still works great.
Wonder how well the laser works through glass or plastic windows, or other common transparent stuff you might want to take pictures through.
Or underwater, 'cause, you know ... sharks.
Smartband sounds like the HALO project on the TV show Continuum and things aren't turning out so well for anyone involved there...
I'm sure there's a CPAN module for that.
Emacs has had these functions for *years* ... :-)

How about we follow the money for him to see if he's getting "contributions" to say this. Perhaps that's why he's using other's ideas.
Remember, it's not bribery, it's a licensing fee.
What does 22GW look like?
About 18 of these.

I'm *amazing* in interviews. It's truly probably my best skill.
My condolences to your girlfriend. :-)
But after driving a car with a no-shift transmission there's no way I'm going back to the stuttery shifts of an automatic.
I've read in several places that the U.S. 2015 Fit will have the option of a CVT or 6-speed manual.
Allowing lawyers to run free and wild ...
The site has instructions for building a hanging rat cage.
Operation Just Cause. I Never Trust Phake-Registry Sites. Go With .name If You Want To Hide In Your Shell Rudy.
I'm waiting for Operation Just Cause 3. That will be awesome!!!
Unfortunately, it will only run on Xbox One and require Kinect.

Tech-savvy folks rip physical media and ffmpeg it into whatever format their device prefers. Fools spend money on DRM'ed downloads.
So we're all either "tech-savvy" or "fools" with nothing in between?

Now instead of RTFM we can all RATM.
