The stupidity of some of the comments found on slashdot never ceases to amaze me, especially considering nerds are supposed to be of above average intelligence.
This is a complex issue and I doubt any of us are qualified or have enough information to really comment fully on it, i'm sure there is much information that is excluded from this and the that the public will never know.
There are no pictures of the scene here, or the road layout, or the route the driver was taking, its very hard to make big judgements based solely on text.
I don't think the driver knew there would be a road block there, and the troops guarding it didn't know the Italians were coming.
To me it justs seems like another tragic incident caused by trigger happy US soldiers which could have been averted if the Italians had communicated properly that they were coming.
What annoys me is the way some people try to put the man who died's actions down because they paid a ransom, (somehow I think people would be making less comments about funding terrorism if it was their mother or father about to be beheaded) the guy lost his life taking bullets meant for someone else which should be an admirable quality whatever country you come from.
Wow is not genre defining in some senses - UO and Everquest defined and set the boundaries and precedents for most modern RPG's, Wow really doesn't do anything significantly differently to either of those games, elements are token from both and expanded upon slightly, but theres no real revolution here.
Its just a purification of the best elements of those games, its been refined and crafted to be as close to the perfect MMORPG for the majority of gamers so that as many people can enjoy it as possible.
Its genre defining in a sense that it will be a benchmark game that is looked back upon for years, a game where MMOGRPG's reached true full MASS appeal.
Is a game defining as in defined the begnining of the genre, or defined where the genre is now and what it will be like in the future?
Of course theres always the oldest trick in the book, set a screen dump as someones desktop and delete their icons and put the start bar on auto hide.
This won't fool anyone with half a brain but it is funny the amount of confusion it can cause on someone whos not so computer literate.
