  1. Re:Open Source Competition on Firefox-Based Start-Up Gets Off The Ground · · Score: 1, Interesting

In the open source community, even if one releases the source to their software, using the correct type of licensing, one can still achieve a patent/copyright on their idea which will keep others from directly tapping into their profits... However, I just don't believe FireFox can get more popular than it is right now, until changes in society occur. Many of my colleagues say, "Firefox? What's that? I don't trust it, is it going to give me a virus?" Firefox needs MAINSTREAM advertising; i.e., it needs to be put on the Television, in Paris Hilton's T-Mobile Sidekick 2, and so forth. In addition, more people need to switch to Ubuntu Linux - which packages Firefox along with it.

  2. Dance Floor on USB Disco Dance Floor · · Score: 1

That's pretty cool. Does anyone perchance have instructions/directions on how one could go about building one for themselves? Such an idea could be taken to a higher level and placed within a nightclub. At that time, the USB controller could be used to literally "follow the music" which would enhance the nightlife quite a bit. If worst comes to worst, the lights could all be aimed and pointed at a cute girl too ;)

  3. Gamma Rays on Sea Life Wiped Out by Neutron Star Collision? · · Score: 2, Insightful

Technology has advanced considerably when compared to 450 million years in the past. When it comes to gamma rays and so forth, if you consider the fact that life exists on the planet now, ironically, an asteroid hitting the planet would have a much larger inpact than a starburst. In the case of a starburst, with the help of radioactive precautious measures such as lead and a little bit of water, we can taste the rainbow.
