Wow ! Why is this news being updated as Sony dropped the fee !! I just checked sonystyle.com and they still have a $50 fee to remove the crapware. (Yes, I checked on only one laptop -- however, as any mathematician will tell you, it takes only one example to disprove a theory.)
Please, stop believing everything you read.
Mathematics doesn't really exist, though. There is no such thing as "proof" in science, just hypotheses, theories, observations, conclusions, and consensuses (what's the plural of consensus, anyway?). This observation may well have muddied the consensus that had previously grown around the black hole theory, but I'm sure it hasn't convinced most yet.
Thank you. My point precisely -- you cant *prove* anything (well not really, but thats not relevant here) but you can disprove hypotheses'.
Then doesn't proof of a single black hole also disprove the existence of MECOs?
One good MECO sighting clearly cannot erase all black hole sightings unless those black hole sightings are wrong. If the MECO is "confirmed" it simply means that there is conflict that must be resolved, not that Black Holes do not exist. The only way to resolve that conflict will be to prove that Black holes actually do not exist, not merely showig that mathmatics says they shouldn't.
Truely it does. But my suspicion is that MECO's being slightly more *exotic* -- it might be easier to prove the existence of MECO's than black holes.
Its mathematical really -- you can disprove by example. If the existence of MECO's disprove the existence of black holes -- then proof of one MECO is sufficient to disprove the existence of black holes. Of course, like you are saying, that proof better be bloody strong.
This is what I thought -- since the network is so much faster than the hard drive why cant we set up a system where all the data just bounces back and forth between two network cards (lets say). As long as the system is powered up -- we can access the data (or will identifying the *desired* data packets take so long as to outweigh the gain in terms of read times ?). When the system is being powered down, all that data can be written to a hard drive.
Outrageous ? Stupid ?
Google search brings up an approximate distance of 2000 light years. Thats fairly close -- but dont think the explosion can fling out material this far.
There might be other reasons why your computer is not up to date. For instance, now that Microsoft insists I install WGA before I can get the updates -- I havent been getting the updates. So Lord knows what all critical fixes my computer is missing. Not that that excuses anybody for using IE:)
Lets see --

Words definitely have consequences. You say your employer is up to no good, employer fires you, some other employer who realises that you were telling the truth takes you in. Only in this case, the next employer is still another 2 years away.
And the whole appointment of Alito *WAS* to keep the conservative sway in the judiciary. There we go - field is set, America is ripe for the taking. So if you are not a conservative flag-flying gay-hater dumb schmuck, then you probably have something to worry about.
Think of the time spent verifying spam as an investment; use your time now and have far less spam/worries about genuine mail being marked as spam in the future. Not to mention the saved minutes that you can spend browsing slashdot more thoroughly.
One of the reasons that comes to mind is the launch of a new satellite for observing GRBs
SWIFT. And the fact that GRB's are intrinsically intriguing - being
the huge balls of energy (if you will) in the Universe

Only in this case. Except that you wouldnt know about it. Crap. *Takes out a towel*
