Yeah, this is one of those things that I wouldn't put too much stock in, that cell phones cause brain cancer.

It seems it's one of those things where people are trying to find something to blame.... and they'd do anything to believe in it. It's just like when people say that "living close to power lines" give you cancer.

I mean, think how many people have cell phones, almost everyone. Now, those people who have brain cancer, and use a cell phone, would like to blame the cell phone.

    Hey, lets go..

Actually, I read something about cell phones being banned in hospitals. It was a while ago.. I can't remeber the source. Regardless, the reasoning behind this is because some patients have wireless transmitters which send their vital signals, and it's feared that cell phones can possibly interfere with these.

When your in situations such as in hospitals or airplanes, where minor problems can mean the difference between life and death... it's better to be safe than sorry.

  5. M$'s Image on Microsoft Quickies · · Score: 2

Bill will be sure to tell you that they are confident that they are not going to win the appeal, since they did nothing wrong.

Time to open your eyes everyone.

The truth is that Bill and M$ will not take any resposibility because that would make their whole image look bad.

If you've been watching TV lately, you'd notice that Bill is in the commercials. If you look at any adverstisement with bill in it, you'll notice that Bill looks friendly in some way. The fact of the matter is, is that Bill doesn't want to look like the 'richest person in the world', he wants to look like your next door neighbor, somebody who you wouldn't dare of commiting such business atrocities.

Remember, when your the richest man in the world, you can afford the best media spindoctors in the world.

Regardless if you like M$'s products or not, you can't deny the antitrust allegations. I've heard many people argue before, "Well, I like Windows, so I don't really care about the Antitrust case." This denies other companies competition, which in the end, screws us over. This is because, the less companys that sell a product, the higher the price is. Yet, if apple was much larger, and there were other major competitors, this wouldn't be a problem.

Yet, Bill still denies any wrongdoing. If you do something bad, and you admit to it, most people won't get angry, they'll just say "that's bad", no please don't do it again. But, when, like microsoft, you deny any allegation, it makes you seem untrustworthy. If Microsoft wasn't so stubborn, and didn't treat its image as the most sacrosanct and inpenitrable ideals, they probably could have avoided much of this.

What they did, is they set a huge goal for themselves, and took all the right steps to form this company. I remember reading how they had a whole democratic heirarchy throughout the world, for their business. Yet, the only problem is, you need a working product to make money.

You have to let huge technological acheivements evolve on their own. That isn't to say, just everyone sit back and expect things to invent themselves, I'm just saying, things come about when your not looking for them.

  10. Versatile cameras. on Sony MiniDisc DV Cam Does Java, Ethernet · · Score: 2

First off, I'd like to say that I really like DV.A while ago, about a half-year ago, I bought a JVC DV Camcorder. After everything, expenses totaled to be about $1800. The video quality is unbelieveable, and the pictures.

The one problem, well, not really a problem, just something that I'm disatisfied with is the lack of being able to upgrade features. I mean, all the features it has are integrated very well, it just doesn't have much expandibility, for a world which develops so quickly technologically.

I also have TiVo, which is a very nice device. The part of TiVo that's really appealing is the fact that every time they decide to integrate a new feature, they can do so by updating the software. This is made possible since it's running linux. It is also open-sourced, so hypothetically, you could add you own features to it! This, is the type of expandibility I'm speaking of.

I wonder if cameras will choose to integrate anything like this. I mean, not being able to check for software updates every time they check their schedules, but something parallel to this level of versatility. Having a java webserver is one step in the right direction.
