  1. Backwards Compatability on Playstation 3 In the Works · · Score: 4, Insightful

I sure hope that Sony continues to make systems that are backwards compatable. I think that really gave Sony a major edge over the Nintendo Game Cube. Games are really expensive and it's nice to be able to continue playing the games on newer systems. Otherwise you either don't play the older games anymore or you have several systems connected in a giant mess to your TV. It might prevent Sony from using media that has more data on it, but I think they would be more successful keeping with a backwards compatable system.

  3. Digital Cable on FCC Pushes Digital TV and Digital Restrictions · · Score: 0, Offtopic

You know the thing I really hate about digital cable and satallite...You have to have to rent the converter boxes/pay per box. I am one of those types of people that has a television in every room. I want to have cable on all of those televisions, but I don't want to pay for every single hookup. I would buy the boxes, but as soon as I buy them, the cable company would probably require me to buy new ones.

The other problem happens when I want to tape one show on the VCR and watch another. You just can't do that with one cable box.

It would be nice if there was some kind of standard built into all new televisions/VCRs that could descramble the digital signal so you wouldn't need a box.

Has anyone found a cheap solution for this problem?

Most small ISPs there days seem to either get bought out or more often they just don't make it. It is hard to compete with the Big Boys.

Also there are so many options out there. You need an edge that makes people want to use your service over another. You need to ask yourself...what would make a person want to use my internet service over another service that probably costs less?

I don't think setting up and ISP would bo too difficult. The problem would get in getting enough customers to cover the costs.

  7. What you are really paying for on Satellite Radio Network · · Score: 1

I see 3 major problems with our current radio network:

    1. Most radio stations play more commercials that actual content.

    2. You can't get radio stations outside of major cities. And if you can there isn't much selection.

    3. There isn't enough variety available.

I think Satellite radio will help solve all 3 of these problems. Both companies that are going to do this have promised 50 of the 100 channels will be commercial-free. You will be able to get recpetion from anywhere. Also will 100 channels you should have plenty of variety and something for everyone.

The $10 a month may not be worth it for everyone, but I think it is great for anyone that has to spend more than a couple of minutes a day in their car.

Really there are 2 kinds of work. Real work which generates some sort of profit for your company. And at work which is just being in the building.

Most people (including myself) probably are only really usefull to the company a few of hours a week. The rest of the time you are reading email, surfing the web, and dealing with time wasting company burocreacy.

Then there is also recorded hours vs actual hours. Recorded hours is what you put on your timesheet or project tracking system. Actual hours is how many hours you are actualy at work. The difference in these 2 times can be quite different.

  18. Role of Parents and Schools on Candidates' Positions On Internet Filtering · · Score: 1

I feel that filtering should all boil down to being a parents responsibility. If parents want to filter websites they should do that. It should not be the government's job to force parents or ISPs to filter what kids are seeing. I personally wouldn't filter the Internet from my kids. But that is just me...

As for public computers...I do not think they should have filtering because the filters don't work. However I do think school computers should have filtering software. Most first ammendment rights already do not apply in schools, and this should also be one of them. Perhaps not have huge filtering software that blocks sites, but have sofisticated software that detects if students are looking at inappropriate material, and then deal with the matter.

And why should netscape give in to IE's standards. If anything netscape/mozilla is doing to right thing by implementing the standards set by W3C and other standards groups.
