    a better question is, how many printer manufacturers include half full toner/ink in their products?

    i don't condone theft at all but i also don't condone the theft manufacturers and middlemen commit.

    i'm very much for cutting the fingers/hands off thieves. it's the only genuine way for them to learn their lessons. first offense, probably not. but 2nd offense, off with their hands.

    rebates have nothing to do with offering the customers a good deal and everything to do with getting your information. you see, the item itself is worth a lot less than the rebate they offer you but your information is worth a lot more. they probably make more money selling peoples information than they do in their primary business.

    THAT is the real scam of rebates. (even though the lesser scam is that they make a minor profit because they know many people won't bother reclaiming it, so they're covered either way).

    fuck them! i have little sympathy for sobs like that. leave our information alone you motherfuggers!

    i for one welcome being tracked evermore for the benefit of information gatherers. oh and you have my permission to sell all data you have on me and i don't mind not being compensated in any way. i'm generous like that. yes, you may also search my bags when i leave your store, anything to make you feel more secure.

    after all, the merchant is always right.

    wireless = insecure.

    that's one of the reasons that i won't use wifi (the other being the piss poor transmission rates).

    i think the people behind the wifi standard seriously don't want security in the implementation. how else do you explain why after umpteen revisions, we cannot get any amount of decent (not defeated in seconds by a war driver) security?

    mod this guy up. i couldn't have said it better myself (actually i couldn't. i'm not as articulate or as concise).

    people don't hear about the massive vote fraud in britain this past election or the one in 2004 in the US (not to forget about 2000). there is OVERWHELMING evidence to show that the vote frauds took place. why the mainstream media don't talk about it is... something i'll leave up to you to decide. of course, the maintream media also completely and without exception "bought" all the lies of the US administration as well...

    no wonder they are attacking blogs left and right... getting a law passed that would prevent political discourse to take place on blogs/web.

    blogs, with minuscule resources had the balls and werewithall to tell the public what was actually going on. discrediting the internet... yeah they've got that (TM).

    oh and that CIA agent that was outed... her husband threatened to expose the niger uranium claim as a fraud. so the administration TM, didn't like them being called out as liars, decided to punish him by outing his wife. now why would they forge documents if there was overwhelming evidence that iraq had/was building WMD.... hmmm makes one think. i wonder why blogs who have virtually no money and few "reporters" could see this so clearly and the mainstream media will hundreds of millions of dollars and thousands of employees could not...

    tip of the iceberg. i wonder what else is going on that you don't know about... those hundreds of spies that were caught in late 2001 but that didn't make headline news... those "middle-eastern" looking men caught near nuclear facilities in the US with traces of TNT in their trucks...

    actually guns do more than just kill things. it has many legitetmate uses. it is a tool, a tool that has been used by many criminals but it's a tool nonetheless.

    when they treat EULAs as contracts, then that's another matter.

    contracts come BEFORE the transaction, NOT after.

    when the contract is presented to you before you buy it and are required to sign it, then and only then will you be right. and that will be a very good day indeed. when people have to sign, you can believe that a lot of people will suddenly find themselves not liking "licensing" software.

    money entitles you to do with things you own what you please. that's part of the buying process. copyrights to entitle the producer to license, otherwise we'd have books that require licenses.

    it's been this way for at least 5 years.

    when you buy a new system/upgrade an old one with the shinest tech at the time in the hopes of just popping in a new cpu; by the time you want to upgrade the cpu, the motherboard/ram/etc will be too limiting to make it useful.

    it's cheaper and easier just to upgrade the mb/ram/cpu every time you want more juice. things are a lot cheaper now than ever in the past (except for those bastard memory companies colluding to keep prices inflated for the past 3 years)

    people with socket 939(any socket) will be sorely disappointed when in 1-2 years that a new cpu won't perform as well as the one in a new
    motherboard with faster ram.

    5-600 bucks every 2 years and you'll be basically at the top of the heap in terms of computing technology.

    considering that current athlon64's outperform g5 cpus is a good indication that backward compatibility isn't hurting as much as we might believe.

    though perhaps in areas where performance isn't the main factor of quality, backwards compatibility might be holding it back... nothing specific jumps out at me at the moment.

    even if someone buys osx for 130 bucks, it still doesn't entitle them to install it on their computer?

    yeah, we're fools all right.

    the fact that a cheap 300 dollar computer can run osx (minus the driver support) really ought not to make any different. if apple gets their $130 for the software, i don't see how they can complain. all users who want macs in a closed secure environment can have that. and people who buy osx to install on their non-apple x86 to hack with can have that too... except apple is going out of their way to prevent fair use of a bought software product.

    and a lot of people seem to miss the point that once a vendor sells a piece of software, they lose their say in how it's used... or they would in any sane economy.

    now if any other vendor of software would pull stuff like this...

    seeing as how apple doesn't want to let you install osx anywhere you see fit, i would guess it is also security for apple.

    please don't mistake their DRM-lite as anything but bad for the end user.

    yeah it's their os and they can do anything they want but that doesn't change my views about them.

    let's try to be consistent.

    all media companies are heading towards DRM, against the wishes of their REAL users. the crap that MS is pulling is fucking unbelievable but not surprising. the slides/info came from an intel presentation years ago (i still have them saved).
    i have no doubt apple will follow. i mean after all, even ibm and amd are part of the INSIDIOUS COMPUTING initiative.

    there's nowhere left to run in high performance home computing. transmeta is/was a DRM's wet dream. VIA has no chance to compete in the mid to high end where most people would want to go.

    don't praise any implementation of DRM, it doesn't do anyone any good and hurts end users. there is NO GOOD DRM. DRM always means against the wishes of the user. if you don't want your god damn content to be copied, don't release it. making users pay for all the enormous amounts of crippling technology, directly and indirectly is a spit in our faces. i know i won't be taking it anymore.

    just because the article doesn't mention it, doesn't mean it isn't going on.

    lots of people have experienced this disgusting behavior first hand, myself included. they are lowlives who deserve to get their business licenses revoked. DON'T EDIT THE FUCKING POSTS. delete them but don't edit. deleting legitemate posts is bad enough but editing them to say something totally different is reprehensible.

    i won't ever do business with these bastards.
