I'd love to switch our companies users to FF but having no way to centrally manage/monitor and update is a complete killer. There's no way we can have users with 10 different versions and different issues, etc. It's a nightmare. Give me a cool central control panel and have each browser be able to be hooked into it and it would be amazing.

I love how this is always said like it is a sign of a failed IT dept. We still run IE6, we have to for more than one essential business apps that will not run in any other browser. Because of buyouts upgrades are not possible and we aren't given any funds for anything but keeping things barely running. Sure, it sucks, in a perfect world, we'd have been long off of it. Eliminating positions (mine included) and the current state of the economy on many businesses make this a pretty minor issue as far as those in power are concerned. That's the reality of IT for many. Sad but true.

I worked in the game industry for about 10 years (PS1-PS2) and I've said it here for years, game companies are putting themselves out of business. The development and production costs have gotten so far out of hand that only "safe" games can be made. Sequels, franchises, licensed crap. No one can afford to take a chance any more, and almost every great game back in the day came from risk. The great games that have had massive support and funding end up having every corner rounded off in the name of wider appeal or time/money constraints. The only games that have managed to be risky and creative are the super small indie games which I think deserve the spotlight these days. It is a steady decline regardless of the profits and numbers. In another few years it is game over and the 1980's crash will come again. Consoles will disappear instead of arcades. It's sad, it's sad to see developers and designers get screwed even more than they already were, but this shake up will knock all of the garbage out of the system and bring it back down to reality and well designed games.

I have thought about this, and from my experience I would actually have a very good case against in that Verizon themselves *requires* that I use WEP on *their* hardware which is known to be terribly insecure. There are two documented cases where I have tried to obtain better, more secure, hardware. And when no said CP is found on my HDD or any of my devices, I'd say they would be SOL.

I could just put one of my DD-WRT routers into the DSL modem and disable its wireless with little effort or cost, but I just won't do it on the principle of the matter. Like the OP said, the sad thing is that there are many VZ customers in more densely packed areas and they are being forced to use an insecure method when truthfully there is no reason. Really frustrating.

It's my freaking home DSL connection, with two iPod Touches a laptop and my torrent/media box. BTW the crappy VZ DSL router does do MAC filtering so you'd need my WEP key and spoof a MAC... and if you're ever out this way, just knock and I'll let you in, have some tea and you can use my wifi.

So recently I did an update to the newest firmware and buried way down under a ton of menu screens and advanced warnings, it is possible to turn on WPA. But it doesn't do WPA2 or anything useful, so I just stick to WEP HEX.

Umm, no. Google offers quite a few services through acquisitions and business/pay services. Postini for example, however, that service has some of the worst support ever. Gmail... oh, wait, that has terrible support too. Adsense... yep, constant fiascos and problems. Basically this company has NO track record of good service but everyone simply gives them a pass.

I do use some of their services, personally and in my company, but I know their service is trash. When I can replace them with another product/company I do. Gmail for Zimbra as an example.
