  1. What are the real uses? on Linux on Nintendo DS, Update · · Score: 3, Insightful

This post mentioned several possible uses for linux on the DS, but what real uses are there? This is a neat trick, but only demonstrates what everyone already knows, the linux kernel is small. I would like to see one of these projects produce something that is actually usefull as something other than an academic exercise.

  2. Let's get things straight on Bloggers Test New MS China Filter · · Score: 2, Insightful

For once Microsoft is not the bad guy here. I don't understand why people are faulting Microsoft for cooperating with a government that could keep them out of a huge market. It is not Microsoft that is deciding that these things should be censored, it is China. Microsoft is just trying to make more money, just like every other American corporation would do. It is China that is trying to keep a lid on ideas that would threaten the way of life for those holding power in that country. And for all of those out there who keep saying that you would never bow to such a request, that's only because you will never have the chance to. If somebody told you if you cooperated with the laws of a country you did not agree with you could make millions or billions more dollars, you would do it. And if you were a public corporation, you would have a responsability to your share holders to do it. If you want to fix the problem, stop talking about how Microsoft is so evil because they are suppressing free speech (which they are not, that's China) and start talking about how the Chinese government is denying peoples rights, and how people and governments can influence China to change.

Yes. Several companies make thier money by releasing crappy re-makes of Disney kid films. As long as the basic story is public domain, and they do not use the same script, then there is nothing Disney can (or for that matter cares) to do.

"If their entire goal is to provide a similar service, and they've made $8.10 billion....something tells me that they're doing something right, which may actually give base to their claims." So what you are saying is that since Microsoft says linux must be bad, then it is. I mean after all, Microsoft makes alot of money and linux is free.

  5. Why I Use CRT on Are CRTs History? · · Score: 1

I am working on a CRT right now, and while I would love to trade it in for an LCD here is the hard truth. My 21" CRT cost about the same as a 19" LCD. The 19" LCD will not support the 1600 x 1200 resolution that I like to work at. When I can get my company to get me an LCD with the same specs as a comparably price CRT I will gladly switch over. Until then I will take the CRT that gives me more bang for the buck.

  6. You'd be bloated too on The DVD Rental Race Analyzed · · Score: 2, Informative

From TFA "Blockbuster on the other hand is a bloated company" You'd be bloated too if you had over 9,000 stores and kept opening more (Thats more retail locations than WalMart in case you're counting). You just don't get that big without a certain amount of bloat , extra layers of management, etc.

You should make your decision not based on what you feel will be in more demand, but what you like more. If you choose to focus on an area that you are more interested in, you will be much better at it. If you are better at it, you will be in higher demand. It is also nice to enjoy your work.
