Not quite what you're looking for, but I thought Jump The Shark would be relevant here.
The issue is: Although his last Cd ("Play") was new, different, interesting, etc., "18" just sounds like the tracks that he didn't have room to fit on "Play". Maybe if he could do something original again, he might have better sales.
In the old days, the funny quote often passed around (supposedly said within MS) was "DOS ain't done 'till Lotus won't run!"
In later years, it mutated in to "Windows ain't done 'till Netscape won't run!"
I guess now it will be "XP ain't done 'till Winamp won't run!"
