  1. Only for washing machines on Is Buying an Extended Warranty Ever a Good Idea? · · Score: 2

I worked with a guy whose sister and brother-in-law worked for Mastercare (the warranty arm of Dixons (a "tech" shop like Best Buy)). They only extended warranties that they or anyone they worked with took were for washing machines. They said everything else wasn't worth it.

  2. Re:Scratch and Sense programming? Seriously? on Ubiquitous Computing Gadget To Teach Coding · · Score: 1

Having studied computing with the OU I must both agree and differ with you.

This "device" is just one unit of a three year degree and will be designed to guide how to control and monitor with a simple to program unit. This will be at most six months of a three year degree.

The "regex" side will have been taught in an earlier module, one specific to programming and how to write good software.

My OU degree served me well in teaching me the field of computing and having studied at a physical university proved to be of better quality.

Me and my oldest boy went war-praming (a British "Stroller") when he was six weeks old. He's four now. Sharp Zaurus, Mammas & Pappas Pram and a pack of nappies (dypers).

I don't think it affected him much, though we did have an American chap round earlier asking if we knew anything about 40 million stolen Credit Card details....

Do you trade off usability for your pre-empted blame culture excuse? The answer lies at your own gate and in your answer lies your fate.

  10. Simple profiling works in the UK, honest... on You Have Been 'Randomly' Selected? · · Score: 1

In the UK our club door security use simple profiling.

If you wear shoes, you get in, no shoes, you don't get in.

It is simple enough for them to understand and there is never any trouble in British clubs. Ever.

Getting door security to implement complex profiling patterns leads to their confusion and violence towards customers.

Looks like the colonial types are still lagging behind the mother-land ;-)
