Besides Byte (which, sadly, died) I did not really read computer magazines. Most of them were waaay to simplistic, basic, and aimed at newbies.
However, I recently picked up a copy of Maximum PC magazine at Safeway and I am mailing in for a subscription this morning. This mag really rocks.
Sure, it doesn't have great Linux and open source coverage, but that's what/. is for! It does have fantastic hardware reviews though, and makes for a good "catch-up" mag for people like me who try to have a life outside of computing.
Usually when I am at the computer, I am so focused that music is blocked out, so it would be pointless to play it.
But if I'm just dickin' around on IRC or doing some compile or something in the background, I listen to electronic music; trance, drum & bass, ambient. Bands: Underworld, Photek, The Orb, Sasha, LTJ Bukem, Orbital, and so on.
1) If it's a hoax, then laugh, it's funny. If you have to take your religion or philosophy so seriously that you can't take a joke in the form of a parody webpage, you will have some serious problems when people *really* criticize your worldview. Lighthen up.
2) If it is real, then Slashdot is doing a serious disservice and actually undermining these peoples' belief system. Have some respect.

"Genius programmers tend to be inward-looking, understandably, and Berners-Lee appears either not to hear or not to want to pay much attention to the frenzied pace of Web development and change. He's much too reflective."
Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Katz is so busy writing his off-target opinions on "geek culture" that he doesn't really.. well, DO anything.
Man, I love this show! I wish there were more audio broadcasts on the net about computers so I could give my hands a break and still be immersed in my obsession. Also, it's *great* that there is a downloadable MP3 format available -- nice for people with dialup bandwidth that still want decent quality. I want more shows to do this.. freakin real audio is painful to listen to on 33.6.
Suggestions:
1) More shows, more often! I'm thinking twice a week. Waiting a whole week is painful.
2) Have at least one segment that deals with something that hasn't been on Slashdot and discussed already.
3) If you want a bigger audience, post ads for it on the front page.

Two points:

More code, less talk.
There was an article in Scientific American about detecting neutrinos/etc. a couple issues back.
