It's not so much that we're afraid of taxes as that it's the opinion of many in the US that we're overtaxed and that much our tax money is misspent and wasted. Basically given the UN's track record for (mis)management, it causes many to doubt its ability to apply a tax and manage the money appropriately.
(Disclaimer: I am not an economist, accountant, nor an expert in tax rates and policies for other countries, or how they compare to tax in the US, my only point was to provide an explanation for the opinion posted above. I'm not responsible for the opinion's relationship to reality)
It's technology slang, or jargon, like most of the unusual terms and ideas that have developed within the technology field as it's evolved from places like MIT and BBS's into the Internet at large. As for it being more or less efficient, that's not the point at all, but rather to add culture and personality to the words and terms used.
(Personally I think it's oddly fitting that, not only would geeks (myself included) develop quite a number of terms relating to the technical field, but then compile them into a dictionary reference with definitions)
You can run a webserver from W2k Pro, try doing that with XP Pro.
I'm not sure exactly what circumstances you're referring to here, but it's rather simple to install the IIS component of WinXP Pro and use it. I have it installed and setup on the laptop I'm using to post this, and it works without any problems; at least in the limited capacity I've used it.
The largest aircraft carriers in existance today are (approximately) 1000 feet long, not 1000 meters. There's no seagoing vessel in existance that is one kilometer long.
