"In exchange for a collaborator's investment to creatively distribute NASA information, the agency will consider negotiating brand placement, limited exclusivity and other opportunities as part of a strategic collaboration."
Does this mean we're gonna see big "Drink Coke!" advertisments next time we look through a telescope at the ISS? That would be some impressive brand placement...
Cause I'm sooo over the other great features I enjoy on my phone, like the camera, MP3 player, image/video viewing, FM radio...
Wouldn't phones be a lot nicer if they were just plain and simple? I hear the Japanese market is shifting back towards simplicity in the phone market, surely the rest of the world should hurry up and follow their lead.
I think they go just a bit overboard in saying that Yonah beats the FX-60 "into a corner".. Most benchmarks had it either infront or behind by around 2-3%. Is it really worth forking out a few hundred dollars for such a dismal gain in performance? Does it have better performance-per-watt? That's what really seems to count these days anyway.
Given the immense competition that WoW poses on all MMOGs at the moment, maybe Ubisoft has just decided that, while they didn't turn a profit, they did have a fundamentally good game and with a nicer market their next product could actually do well?
I don't think it's really fair to say the Horde is evil - Taurens (Nature lovers and generally cute and gentle creatures) are definitely not evil, while humans are definitely evil by nature (corrupt, domineering, only interested in pillaging the whole continent around their home towns of Stormwind and Ironforge to eradicate everything they do not like).
Thats just my opinion, the other 6 races are kinda in-between.. I think that the Undead and Night-elves are both just victims who would be much happier if they weren't caught up in the whole mess.
Fact 1: Companies are sick of having to pander to every civilian who feels the need to have a whinge (eg. The radiation from the nuclear power plant makes my testicles tingle, I have 3rd degree burns over 80% of my body from a burst gas pipeline and now you're putting another one outside my house). These complaints are just a time/money waster.
Fact 2: Companies have MASSIVE sway over the Governments decisions (especially with Bush in).
Solution:
Step 1: Dumb down Americans, deny them access to any and all information Step 2:... Step 3: PROFIT!
After reading the groklaw article, I realized one massive flaw in their argument: Why the fuck would big companies want to ditch software patents now?
IBM, Microsoft, Sun, Kodak, you name it - they've all sunk huge sums of money into buying these software patents, and aside from some lawsuits between eachother, they all stand to win, by crushing opposition with their ridiculous repertoire of patents. So when the article states "The solution is obvious. Everybody needs to get rid of their stockpiles of weapons. Declare patents don't cover software, and everybody wins. Except some lawyers, who will then have to find other work. And not a moment too soon.", it just doesn't work. Like the Cold war, the big players really cannot lose, and getting rid of their "stockpile of weapons" is NOT an option.
Still, I guess we can all dream that this will happen, Linux will be safe from Microsoft, Java will be open-sourced, and safe from Kodak.. or not:(
This is absolutely brilliant. A few months ago I was thinking that the US should police their government better, as they're responsible for a lot more than just America. The fact that someone has come in to at least police the Elections is wonderful, but I think the Gov't should be auditted more thoroughly over all. In my eyes, Bush has been allowed to fuck America and Americans out of all the things they've worked so hard to achieve. Letting Bush back in would be a huge mistake in itself, he seems completely incompetant as a President, but letting someone else operate in the manner he did would also be a mistake.
Over here in Australia, it doesn't matter what git we have up top, cause ultimately, we've got a tiny populous and a fairly small proportion of the worlds economy. Whether America has the right to go into other countries and fuck around is a matter of opinion, but they have the ability to do so, so they should be bloody careful about who decides when they do so.
One last thing, the entire American middle class (and as usual, lower class) seems to be getting shafted harder than ever, I suspect 95% of people on/. are in this category.. please think about forcing the government to be more responsible:)
I'm not saying it wont run on a machine with > 512mb RAM.. this machine has that much.
What he said was that, even though it says it utilizes the full xxxMB of ram, it is only utilizing 256, and the rest remains unused (and hence, everything goes into VM). The problem with this is, you can't truly tell whether it is true or not, because Windows mem management may say one thing and do another.. HDD thrashing only occures when it says I have used all 512mb of RAM though, so I suspect this statement is bogus.
If no-one here on Slashdot has heard of this 256mb myth, it's probably just that, a myth:P
A couple of weeks ago, a friend of mine said that windows 2000 (win2k server at least) cannot utilize more than 256mb of RAM. I found this incredibly hard to swallow, and have yet to find proof of this on the net, so I am incredibly dubious.
None-the-less, can anyone validate/invalidate this assertion??
Well, if you look at the two articles, they both link to the NYT article, so they appear to be about the exact same topic.. both also talk about the same startup company (Vivato)...
Maybe/. people are just getting pissed off at their own mistake and so they're doing nasty modding to make themselves feel good?
It's paranoid delusions like this that will bring about the downfall of the US

Just a thought..
This makes me feel so much better about moving to the UK as an IT professional..
Why must they always pick on the good, honest guys while the criminals just dodge by their "preventative measures" every time?

Otherwise Ubisoft is just crazy

Maybe Tim doesn't reload Slashdot from the server all the time, and is reading older, outdated articles, which leads to him posting duplicates?
/. getting a lot of abuse about duplicate posts, but two on the one page?! Oh well, I guess theres nothing better to read online :(
