No, the ideas aren't, but what you said is about as dumb as saying OS X doesn't contain any innovations because its just an Operating System. Gmail contains the conversation view, which I consider very innovative. I like the labels concept. Gmail was the first webmail service which I could stand to use (and now like better than traditional mail clients).

I'll give you chat, Gtalk is pathetic. Calendar I haven't seen yet, so I won't comment. Their mapping tools (Earth and Local) are pretty neat, and I have yet to find any competition with as many features (don't even get me started on Windows Live Local, what a POS, doesn't work outside the US).

Are you trying to say that you can't innovate in old markets, and move those markets forward? Cause that would be a pretty dumb thing to say IMHO. Does that mean Tivo wasn't innovative because TV had been around for years? What about eBay....auctions have been around for many years?

I'm a Shaw customer. Shaw is primarily a Cable TV company, who also has internet services and VOIP services. Telus is their main competition here in Calgary at least. Telus is primarily a telephone company. Telus also has cellular service, ADSL internet service, dial-up internet service and they are introducing a new Cable TV Service. So, pretty much, with the new services, the two companies compete in all of their products. I never knew Shaw did this...but I use their VOIP service anyways, so it doesn't affect me.

Yeah, but spyware generally does this without your knowledge. Google Desktop must be a pretty shitty spy to explicitly tell you, both in their TOS and on the page where you enable the feature, what they are doing. Try Google Desktop for Enterprise, the software doesn't even contain this feature and the software can be locked down and can have document retention policies (if your email retention policy is 30 days, Google Desktop can be set to remove emails from its index after 30 days). Much better solution for companies.

Some examples from the front page of Digg.com:

--"Women will get sterile just looking at you", Star Wars fans uncool??

A man was so bold as to blog that being a hard core Star Wars fan is social suicide. He backed up his statement with some hilarious convention pics and captions.

--Hidden task killer in Windows XP!

Most people probably know that Windows XP comes with a darn useful task killer. Lets you kill anything automatically!

    --Zombie MMO???

A buddy of mine just forwarded me this link. Turns out the name mean lifeless in Latin. Does anyone know anything about this? I'm a HUGE Zombie and HUGE MMO fan!!!

--EA's Exclusive Contract With The NFL May Be Voided!

If the dispute between the NFLPA and the NFL continues then anti-trust rules will apply. If this happens then EA's contract is null and void!

    --LEGO brick USB drive

The perfect USB drive. Why doesn't LEGO sell these?

So what is Digg? A news site, or a place for geeks to dump their filth? Sorry, I don't go out of my way online to read garbage, and that includes teasers written by retards. And I'm not even going to bother replicating some of the comments here.

Satellite view has proved useful for me. Was going to take a look at a house on the other end of my city, which would have taken forever to bus, so I viewed it on Google Maps. Turns out a giant sound barrier was right in front of the house. Didn't bother wasting my time. Just because you don't find it useful, doesn't mean nobody does.

Oh, and when I went to go look at another house, I had someone drive me. Mapquest's directions led us to a dead-end and we ended up being 15 minutes late because of the stupid layout of roads in the area. Apparently they thought there was a road going right through 3 houses. Out of curiosity, I tried Google Maps when I got home, and it gave proper directions. So for me, Google Maps is more useful.

Pretty sad when Microsoft can't even see downtown in most Canadian cities, yet I can see my house on Google Maps/Earth. Plus, Google has a nice simple interface, as always. Microsoft's has little pop-ups all over the map which bug the hell out of me. Do I really need a scratch-pad taking up half the space? And why can't they set a cookie to keep it turned off when I go to local.live.com. Why, when I type in Berlin in Google Maps, does it take me to Berlin, Germany, whereas Microsoft's can't? Why do I always get "Server Busy" messages from Microsoft's whereas Google's always works? Why can I do local business searches in my home city in Canada, whereas I can't even see the city in Live Local? I wrote off Microsoft's mapping service long ago.
