  1. Am I the only one that sees the benefits? on "Free Wi-Fi" Scam In the Wild · · Score: 1

Windows users will become a computer that: first infect others, second share internet That's a hell of a nice choice!! I don't mean to enforce that practice, i consider that damn foul play, but... think about it, if i could give away 10% of my badnwith to wireless users... I would!! If everyone did that we could have free wireless all over the country and count of being able to connect from almost everywhere... So, if you happend to know how to do that the easy way (say a router that can broadcast 2 SSID's one private with password and 90% of the bandwith and another with a public, free, and 10% bandwith) hell, I'll do that!!!! and i'll even convice a lot of people to do it! Well, coming back to that, file sharing for all, writing permissions, loging into an ad-hoc network, really simple scam, isn't it?

  2. Re:Wishing them the best on StarOffice 8 May Be MS Office Killer · · Score: 1

    I have such a file...
We use Office 2003 and one of our coworkers uses Office97... he opened and saved some documents... he also printed some... the margines where gone, the foother was wrongfully formed, the page was dismembered... and, even more, if he dared to save it... darn, we wouldn't be able to open it againt!

Only solution? another coworked had Office2000, the solution was to open it and save it again, that would migrate the filetype and allow us 2003 users to open it.

If even the last resource failed... we had to export it to RTF.. and I'm talking about a real project :S

  3. Reminds me of... on Designing an OS for Blind/Deaf Users? · · Score: 1

... a operating system we were trying to create that was language/independant (no, really!) but not coding language, but actually User Language independant, after a little though we decided that it could be usefull even to people that doesn't know how to read nor write, which prove like a very hard task, as you had to show all errors with images or sounds.

Well, if we could get some "tactil screens" so we can actually feel what is on the screen and some responses to it.. then we could think about building terminals for the blind. Braille terminals are not good enough (is like using a text interfaces only, can you imagine doind that with windows? i know i can't, however linux would be really nice)

Sound is just a pain, i usually try stuff like, being blind for a week, beeing deef for 3 days, to see if i could do the things i do, and i usually find out that it is more than a pain in the a$$, we actually went around in wheelchairs just to see if buildings/malls/cinemas are up to it or not... how hard it is to move around, etc.

If we want to do something about that, the fact is, more people would need to be blind for a week!! is a reviving experience, to be dependant, to feel the darkness.

  4. Windows? Virii? Whatever... on Mad as Hell, Switching to Mac · · Score: 1

I use Mac, Linux and Windows, and to be honest, the only reason I keep using Windows is... well.. Half Life 2. That's it. BTW, i ought to say that i do not use Antivirus programs, nor do i run a firewall, but i do update my computer regurlally. To any extend i have had some virus sometimes, but that would be about 3 or 4 times in 12 years of using windows? (not counting stupid viruses like stoned, natas, and the like) i grew used to the idea of knowing what the OS is doing and keeping an eye on it... but that is the windows story. Well, i do like mac, those are really fun, and way to gay (meaning that it is way too "nice looking", unlike a pc)... my bro owns one and it's funni to compare them, what is it that i don't like from a mac? wey to obscure for me, but then again, i haven't used them that much. My main computer is a unix one, and i hate to admit that i have to upgrade it almost every three days (software upgrades for suse... mostly) but i have no need on being so picky about what is running, what is it doing, what's comming in and out, etc, everything seems to be quite well unless i expresely ask for something else. One more thing about windows... if you have a computer as i have, configured et al, and someone else uses it, and then gives a wrong click to the explorer... darn! the full system will start acting strange, never mind having different accounts, the whole thing is wrong know,, solution? remove it if you can, or reformat, cause windows will never stand a removal (or was it a REMOVALL), i do love mac's for their simplicity, most things are where you expect them to be, and it also looks pretty good. Linux is fine to experiment as you have access to most things, has decent support and all. Well, my point is, you can use whatever you want... but which OS has keep me doing the most reboot-reinstall-try-repeat ? Windows, then Linux, then Mac... Nice choice if you like em, but i think i biased on what i use more. I like living my live without protection, however you have to be carefull nontheless. I love Mac OS Tiger and I love Linux. I have to say that from the Windows versions I do preffer XPSP2... as it is the most stable i have ever tried.. from the windows perspective... but i do hate microsoft OS's to some degree.
