I have to rant that most linux advocates can suck it. I use linux all day, and it's great, but most of you out there in the linux community are more interested in penguins and hating Microsoft than in making computers do really cool things.
To keep this on point, you should visually represent linux in a meaningful, not cartoonish way. Things like Mosaic/Netscape, NCSA HTTPd/Apache, HOWTOs, C, Perl, kernel hacking, the GIMP [since it's a graphics mag cover we're talking about], the internet itself -- all these are things that have both boosted linux and been boosted by linux.
