I think the cigarette industry might give that claim a run for it's money. Sure diamonds are overly expensive and all, but they don't actually slowly kill you if you wear one.
...said the AC because he was afraid to login and have a million slahdotters going through his previous comments with a fine tooth comb looking for similar bad predictions so he could be taunted and booed until my throat is sore.
I on the other hand have only been wrong once, I remember the day well. It was the day I thought I had made a mistake.
That was my point. Visa apparently thinks it isn't legal to purchase from that site no matter where you are from due to "...legislation passed in Russia and international copyright law."
So I was curious if they have cut it off for everyone or just people external to Russia. If it is only external to Russia then perhaps they think it is legal for Russians to use the service (and not anyone else - under what law I don't know). If the don't think it is legal for Russian citizens then how come it hasn't been shutdown yet seeing as it's illegal and all?
Looks like its cutoff for everyone though so they don't care where you live so the point is moot.
So VISA will obviously not make any more money on purchases made at AllOfMp3. Seeing as they are in the busines of making money the only reason I can think of for doing so would be: a) they think there is a risk they will somehow face legal actions if they keep servicing AllOfMp3 customers (and hence lose money overall) b) they have been paid a lot of money from some anonymous(*wink*wink*) party to make up for the money they now won't get c) they think it's morally the right thing to do (bwahahaha!).
1.5 billion songs downloaded from iTunes only means a lot of people just don't know it yet.
They will find out when their PC crashes and they lose all the music on their hard drive, get a new computer, install iTunes then auto-sync their IPOD and lose all their music. Or when in a few years there is another cool non-apple media player on the market and they try to move their music to their new player and find they can't.
Thats when people that already hate DRM and know a few of the tricks to get around it start to get a lot of phone calls. Eventually everyone will grow to hate it, it will just take a little time.
So if you live in Russia and have a VISA card can you still not use your VISA card at allofmp3 even though it is legal for you to use that site?
Is there such a thing as a VISA card in Russia? I mean if you live there can you get a VISA card? I would guess yes but don't know for sure.
If the legality depends on your location does it depend on where you live? the billing address of your VISA card? the location of the Bank which you have your VISA card through? or the Head office of VISA?
Or does it just matter who leans on VISA hard enough to get what they want?
I think the point is that the source of methane could potentially have been produced by living organisms but there is no other evidence at all of living organisms. Hence the search for what else could be the source.
That has a low-tech solution. Do what my (very large) company does and have Windows NT as the standard desktop. No USB support. Shithouse when you need to run any software made this century but hey! no USB support!
Ahhh. what?
The deepest mine in the world is about 4km and the deepest ever hole is a little over 12km. And that's a bore - straight down. Building a ring with a diameter of kilometers that goes almost three times the current deepest hole in history is hardly "nothing".
I seem to remember, not so long ago, the we fought an extensive and sometimes scary cold war to fight this sort of thing. We mocked and ridiculed communist block countries for their intrusive governments and their lack of civil rights.
What used to? The only thing that has changed is the country. It was the USSR it's now China.
One difference between an "occupation force" and an "externally commanded islamo-fascist terror insurgency" is that you can generally tell who the members of the occupation force are and you can tell when they go away and the threat is gone.
Wouldn't it be easier to give up certain liberties to the government to fight an occupation force because you know : a) who the exceptional powers the government now has is to be used against and b) when the threat has passed so those powers can be taken away from the government again (assuming they are willing to give them back up).
With an "externally commanded islamo-fascist terror insurgency" how do you know who to use the powers against? There will be obvious targets but due to the nature of the threat there will be very non-obvious targets who look for all the world like ordinary citizens. Are you willing to face the force of those powers yourself so the government can fight the good fight? or are you just happy for other citizens to do so as long is it isn't you (because after all, you have nothing to hide).
And who says when the threat has passed? There is no invading army at the border to tell the threat is still there so when does the government give up its special powers granted to it to fight the bad guys? What if the powers that be decide the threat has never passed?
I think it would be much easier to give up some rights to fight an invading force than terrorist type threat. So if you wouldn't give them up for an invading force you definately shouldn't in this case.

Hi,
Could I request one copy of my life up until this point. DIVX format will be fine. Make sure you zip it up though cause I have a download limit that I need to keep an eye on (though you probably already knew that).
The gun was pointing at his head, well his whole countries heads. He was getting information that someone had pulled the trigger of that gun and he had a choice weather to pull the trigger of the gun he was holding that was pointing back at the rest of the world. He chose not to pull the trigger even though it could have meant everyone in his country died and the US got away with it.
Put yourself in his position for a moment. You know that feeling you get when you have to make a big decision and there is a lot riding on it? maybe a big financial decision, or a big decision about your family or future? Now add a huge time dependence to that decision (i.e. you have to make the decision in the next 10 minutes).
Now multiply that feeling with the fact that the decision you have to make doesnt just affect you and your immediately family, it affects everyone you know, and everyone they know, and everyone who is to live on this planet from this moment on.
For my mind this guy saved the world. He had his finger on the button and could just have easily pressed it as not. And for making the right call and not pressing it he lost his job.
It is perfectly simple to design a connector that would insulate this connection in such a way that it would be IMPOSSIBLE for the operator to electrocute himself
I think you are underestimating the ingenuity of the average idiot.
Very, very difficult? yes. Impossible? no.
Aren't property boundaries artificially created and implemented and enforced by a government agency as well? A block of land is merely a lump of dirt in a certain area of space/time, but putting up a fence around it and saying I am using it and that I have a right to it doesn't make it mine. Who owns it and where its boundaries lie is looked after by a central body just as the FM frequecies are.
e) Everything you create with it will be DRMed to within an inch of its life. (You will be able to use your document again, but only if you call Microsoft first and ask if its OK).
I think the cigarette industry might give that claim a run for it's money. Sure diamonds are overly expensive and all, but they don't actually slowly kill you if you wear one.
They weren't very imaginative with their away kit design were they.

Thats because theres a light in there.
And don't try to tell me it goes off when you close the door, cause I open it real fast sometimes and it is definately always on.

Nobody wants DRM music.

That sounds more like a problem with your Health Care system than illegal immigration.
you're from Holland? thats weird.
I think the point is that the source of methane could potentially have been produced by living organisms but there is no other evidence at all of living organisms. Hence the search for what else could be the source.
so does "10 print "boob" 20 goto 10" work then?

Did you submit this post from a Zune?
They should add an enter key.

It's exactly the same thing great for everyone, and by everyone I mean Microsoft and all the major IP holders.
Not so great (actually pretty shit) for anyone that actually wants to buy and use the product.
Funnily enough this seems to be a pretty common theme for products that revolve around DRM.
The Dept. of Homeland Security called.
They want their paranoia back.
So it's not so much
"If you are not wish us you are against us"
as it is
"If you are not one of us you are against us"
Charming.
