Au contraire. I said the language used does not matter much to the _developer_ (if said developer is a real expert). You are saying it is important to the _project_. That is a bit different. Depending on the project, that may or may not be the case, but it is hardly "the most important decision". That thinking is for people with low levels of insight and experience.
I would call minefields, automatic firing system, electrified fences, guards with instructions to kill all pretty "physical". And that was not only Berlin but everywhere. How can you be so ignorant?
That is why I said "real expert". Same-paradigm is easy and anybody smart can do it. You are correct that many programmer will find it very hard or even fail even to learn a language from a different paradigm. Heck, many will fail to learn a language from the same paradigm in a short time. Verilog does not quite count IMO, as learning it is not so hard, but doing useful hardware in it requires additional knowledge. Same, for example, with Computer Algebra languages like Axiom, where you need to understand the mathematics as well.
Indeed. For any sane definition of "AI", "AI" does not exist. There are now people saying that yes, this thing is AI, but human-like intelligence would be AGI (Artificial General Intelligence). But that is just sophistry with words as "AI" as used here strongly implies AGI. Watering down the term "Intelligence" and hoping nobody knows to keep the hype going is just dishonest. Although I would be ok with "AI" being erased as term and replaced by AGI. Then it would at least be obvious that there is nothing like this in this automation software.
And that is just the whole AI lie in a nutshell: All the present approaches and all presently known approaches will never do more than that, because they lack the "I" in "AI". Intelligence requires insight and understanding, not long lists of detailed if-then instructions.
I fear you may be right. I mean look at all the people leaving this administration because they cannot take it anymore. None of them are peace-loving humanitarians, but the amount of evil they would have to participate in to stay is just too much for them.
Makes one wonder whether Trump's wall is really to ultimately keep the population in, not the "others" out.
android is total shit, from a tech POV. its not about users or user freedom, never was and never will be. the only thing android does well is deliver eyes and clicks to google's real customers, the corporations.
given that they ruined their linux os and the update 'story' is worse than MS (and that says a lot, right there)
This is perhaps the most striking evidence. I mean how can you support an OS _worse_ than MS? The mind boggles. Also agree about the young people with no real-world experience. These are easiest to manipulate and exploit, after all and these people will usually not realize when they are contributing to evil.
They really cannot do anything except search (badly, but with a huge DB) and ads...
This is obviously very far removed from their "vision" and "image", but in the end all Google management seems to care about is making money and only ads make money and search brings in the ads and improves targeting them. Oh, and they can operate a fairly vanilla mail-server and use it to get more information to target ads.
As a provider of infrastructure or longer-term available services of any kind, Google is entirely the wrong choice.
The best way to change how a person thinks is to change the way s/he talks.
Oops, sorry. I should not have said it was the "best" way. That was double-plus ungood. More like it's one of the most pernicious ways.
It is, as it sidesteps any kind of plausibility control. It is also for most people the most efficient and effective way to manipulate them. Does not do anything for those that can think non-verbally or in a second, unaffected language, but that is a minority anyways. I have wondered for a long time why this language manipulation has this strong effect, but it turns out most people critically depend on their native language to think, go with any trend, no matter how demented, and are completely unable to create new terminology if needed.
The best way to change how a person thinks is with rational persuasive arguments.
Which also (in general) seems to be the least efficient and effective method. While in theory, this is that gold-standard of argumentation, it requires a rational person on the receiving end, and those seem to be pretty rare, even here.
Oh, sorry. That is what you get for being an AC....
His question was dumb because even being able to ask such a question requires much more than "just pattern-matching". Hence his question already contained the answer in a very obvious way and he did not see it. As a side-note, "pattern matching" is pretty much on the lowest level of computational power. It has, in a sense, the least "intelligence" requirements. Even today's computers can do significantly more and nobody with a minimum of understanding what they can and cannot do would claim modern computers were intelligent in the sense of human intelligence or artificial general intelligence.
Judging from the criticisms, Summit Learning sounds far better than regular education.
"You have to teach yourself," Storman rightly complained
Being able to learn yourself is the most important skill you can have. Unfortunately, many people never acquire that skill so have to be constantly spoon fed information, are left unable to do anything if it's not explained to them, and can't work through problems themselves. If children become more capable of learning on their own, it will greatly empower them and give them far more opportunities in the future. Teaching them that they don't need a teacher to learn, and can learn on their own initiative, is a very good start.
That will not happen. People that can teach themselves are already doing it and the others will not be able to do so. It is not a learned skill by all accounts. It is something in the "talent" class, and you either have it or not.
"goto" is a loop construct. If-then is not. Seriously, this is program semantics 101, 1st week. This is so basic I cannot even find a web-reference for it.

Wow. How can you be so ignorant?
The problem happens to be on your side here, not mine.
Indeed.
Too many people that think an UI needs to be an "experience". Give it a few years and the morons driving these "innovations" may realize nobody cares.
Also, I did that about 20 years ago. Decoded to drop it again as that language was designed by complete idiots, for numerous reasons.
That is why I said "real expert". Same-paradigm is easy and anybody smart can do it. Libraries are. On the other hand, every real expert can learn a programming language in a week or two, so special-purpose languages have merit.
The wall will still be needed. Remember how the former USSR and "colonies" needed a wall to keep their population in?
You know, as extremely stupid that would be, I cannot find it to be inconsistent with the available facts.
I fear you may be right. I mean look at all the people leaving this administration because they cannot take it anymore. None of them are peace-loving humanitarians, but the amount of evil they would have to participate in to stay is just too much for them.

I threw out the optical drives from my computers (never any others) years ago and never missed them.

Well, the currently still (or rather getting even more) relevant book on manipulating thoughts with language is "1984" by Orwell.

Well, either you are playing dumb or you are dumb. Or maybe both.
Well, yours is obviously not capable of doing more.
