  1. Re:The usual response on Cell Users As Bad As Drunk Drivers · · Score: 1

Yeah, yeah you should be penalized. If it was 1 in 1000 causing the problem maybe that would be a different story. But those numbers seem (I know, very unscientific) reversed to me.

I know I am a worse driver when using a cell phone even though the entire time I am driving I am worrying about my actions more while using the phone.

Criticize me if you will, but in my youth I drove drunk on several occasions. Nothing ever happened to me. No tickets, arrests, no one died or was injured. I never even hit a telephone pole or guard rail and drove off. I also think I was an idiot who deserved something far more severe to happen to me. And it certainly does not mean I think it should be legal as it is regarding the risk involved. If the risk involved is as great or greater than driving while drunk--as many more than just this latest study have shown--then it should be illegal.

Screw business. Screw talking about your day. Screw making arrangements to pick up kids. Screw your boss calling you to find out why lunch is taking two hours. Pull over and call the person back or wait until you reach a stopping point other than a stop light.

Do not penalize me because you think you can drive better than you do while on a cell phone and hit, kill or injure me or anyone else.

Screw that. Criticize early, criticize often. Some moron introduced a bill that will probably pass unless a huge amount of people rally against that. Frankly, the chances of that happening are pretty slim, but that's the only hope we have. So outsiders, please do criticize us loudly, early and often. Don't wait until it is too late.

I had no issues playing Everquest Online Adventures for the PS2 with a keyboard and controller then moved over to FFXI with the same setup before moving on to Lineage and EQ2 on my computer. Sure, EQOA and FFXI didn't have the customization element to it, but it doesn't need to have that in order to be fun.

My wife and I even had two televisions set up next to each other, her on her PS2, me on mine. We had some great times and I even wish my PS2 could handle EQ2 because I'd be back on the couch in a second.

  4. Re:summary on Burst.com Sues Apple Over Patent Infringement · · Score: 1

You question why burst.com didn't sue immediately after iTunes came out? It is because they actually tried to work with Apple (and many others) first. So by your logic, a company is a patent troll when they try to work with a large corporation and the large corporation repeatedly ignores and goes ahead and uses their patented technology anyway.

True, last year burst.com did approach Apple. But they also did so in '99, '01, '02, etc. This didn't just happen last year. Burst.com used to employ more than 100 people in the technology sector before their patents were repeatedly trampled by large corporations and they almost closed the doors. Burst.com tried to do business the way business should be done. Now their only option is to attack through legal action because they couldn't compete fairly.

When large corporations keep getting richer and richer off of your patented technology that you have repeatedly tried to license to them and they ignore you, suing is all that is left. I hope Apple pays quite a bit for their transgressions, as well as others that burst.com has legitimate claims against. I have no love at all for patent trolls who just wait for large corporations to use their technology then sue, but I do not believe burst.com is one of those. The Apples, Microsofts and Real Networks are to blame for this one.
