Robot? I was on Ritalin for, oh probably 6+ years, so unlike you, i know what i'm talking about, although I had ADD, not ADHD (Just like ADHD people, i don't pay attention that well, but wasn't hyper). I can tell you right now I was not a robot. I had the same personality, same interaction with people outside of class. The differance was I accually payed attention to people. My mind didn't just wonder if I wasn't interested. The second thing I have to say is that i've worked at church camp and have to deal with a handful of obviously ADHD kids (a few other ADD people, but they were not as big of a problem, ADD is much quieter, and stick to themselves) and they are impossible to work with. One child, whose family i know fairly well, good frinds with his sister, and he could not control himself. Luckily i wasn't in his cabin, but the consolers that were stayed up all night and feared for thier life, unsure of what he would do next. As a former ADD case (mostly i've grown out of it, which yes, you can do) I can tell you that it is a disorder. David could not control himself, and if he didn't have ADHD, he would be a very nice, interesting person. So you might want to know what you are talking about before you start spouting off about robots and non-existed disorders. It's not about being controled, it's about being in control.
Hmmmmmmm.... I don't know about you, but between Borland's products and MS's, I would say that Borland beats MS hands down, it's not even funny. Oh, and if I remember correctly, Delphi is the first independent path to.Net, as well as C++ Builder. So why would I use MS's when I can use one that I know is great, the compilers are amazing, and I can accually program in multiple languages for one program. Oh, and i don't have to pay an arm and a leg to get it.
Well, maybe not totally, since shows like SG-1 is still on, one can still hope, but for the most part, the shows that i enjoy to a huge extent seem to not always last. Crusade, for example (and basically any of JMS's work like Legand or the Rangers), got cancled far too quickly by TNT, and it was sad that Sci-Fi didn't pickup the production of it, i would have liked to of seen the B5 universe completed. But, i can't balme Sci-Fi too much, they are, after all, a company. And a company is always looking after thier bottem line, no matter what the fans say (Unless the fans are the stock holders, then they listen quite a bit more).
So i wonder... Would it be possible to save Sci-Fi shows ala Blender stlye? I mean, in the span of a few months, Blender fans produced 100,000 Euros for a piece of software. Could we geeks and Sci-Fi lovers produce a fund or even an independent channel that can save and help produce good Sci-Fi? It would rock to once again see Crition travel in Moya and be able to say that I helped pay to keep that show alive. Or see the Rangers once again walk in the dark place no one else dares? Ahhh, the dream would be so sweet.
I've been working for about 4 years now on a graphical user interface for dos as a pet project, and have learned a great number of things. So many, in fact, that i'm in the middle (still) of rewriting it. If you're intreseted, the website is http://dwin.sf.net/ and is open sourced. When the new version comes out (or the next preview) one could use it to see how it all fits together. This would be better then trying to use XWin to learn how everything works because it is smaller, simplier and very OOP (which is great for windowing systems). And yes, most of/. will call me crazy for reinventing the GUI, but heck, i've learned so much about computers in doing it that it's been a real fun time.
By far has to be FreeDOS. Although development is slow, and the user base pales in compairason to others like Linux or FreeBSD, it's really amazing what they've done. The developer's list has 500+ people on it (most inactive) and recently the system is getting pretty good. Back 10 years ago, DOS was by far not a niche OS, but today it has become. Sad it is, but glad that some people accually understand that for such a simple OS, it's quite extendable.
Oh, and of course, by favorite GUI to go ontop of FreeDOS: DWin. Not much to use yet, but i really enjoy it.
I absolutly hate them. I program for a small company (okay, i am the company) and deal with free software on a daily basis. When i made that desision to move to free software, i was inevidetably forced choose a license. Yea, i looked over the GPL, and read the first half of it until i got so confused, i couldn't tell what i could or could not do. So i started just following Slashdot, and eventually came to a psudo understanding of the GPL and all it's resrictions. I finnally got to the point where i said that i was not going to use the GPL in any of my software that i don't have to. Instead i looked at the OSI approved licenses and saw libpng and bsd, and said, "Hey, i like that." So i took from the two the parts I liked and and wrote my license that i use for DWin and Draak (The Orginal Atrodo(s) Company) I did this because license don't matter to me. All i want is acknowledgement that i do write code. What ever other people do with it, i don't care, because my experience was always that people don't like my programs. But obviously i am wrong because people are downloading DWin, and visting my site fairly regularly.
Now what's my point? Well i almost forgot it too, but the fact is that license doesn't matter to me, as long as i can program what i want. RMS gets to me in this respect, saying that anything but GPL is the end of free software. But look at BSD. They have a license that uses something other then GPL and they are huge success. I might even swich my linux box over to a bsd box because i never knew how huge of a cult following they have until i started to look. And the best part is that they spend more time coding then debating about what license to use for software x and is it compatable with software y. One more RMS articale like this saying he is always right, and i probably will install a BSD.
The Webserver is here Be cautious, i'm pretty sure it is not able to handle a great deal of hits at once (i think one at a time is it's limit still), so please be nice to it.
I have been running DR-DOS on my 386 for over a year now, and it is far better then MS-DOS. A) it's faster, a LOT faster B) The mulittasker works decently when i need it C) I have never come accross any programming incompatablities. FreeDOS is coming along, and i've played with it alot, but haven't swiched over yet because the kernel still is getting straightened out. Plus, why would FreeDOS want to reverse engerneer anything but MS-DOS (which is the standard for dos, if you didn't know). Come to think of it, why would we reverse engerer anything, we have Ralph Brown's Interrupt List, which has ever int you'd ever want or never wanted, and tells you everything you'd want to know how to clone DOS.
Good thing I live in Cincinnati, where we not only have had the testing, but they are rolling it out now. Yea!

I've always wanted my offical title to be "System Overlord" if i was a SysAdmin. But since I'm only an intern for now, the name "Minion" fits well.
